(owo) What's this?

This is a list of all legal-to-use XG patches, matching up to S-YXG50. Every MU-series device is guaranteed to have those (and more), albeit the sound may be different, beyond just DAC and other analog differences. (To do: compare and contrast between my MU128 and S-YXG50).

Any other XG device may support at minimum everything here, although we wouldn't know for sure. If you have some random device that claims to have the XG standard, it's worth sitting down and checking against every patch here!

Use this info for the BotB XG format.

Patch table

XG patches (MSB/CC#0 set to 0)

This list of patches is provided without names; if you want the names, I would highly suggest consulting the MIDI patches list
spreadsheet.

GS patches (MSB/CC#0 set to 121)

By setting the MSB (CC#0) to 121, you gain access to another set of patches, reflecting the Roland GS set of patches. Those sound pretty similar to the already-existing XG patches, so they might not amount to very much at all.
Even so, you can find a list of those here.

(to-do: verify those actually cause i'm not sure if everything's in there)

SFX

Individual sound effects may be used by setting a channel's MSB (CC#0) value to 64. Not all programs will correspond to a SFX.

Drum kits & SFX Kits

Can be activated on any MIDI channel by setting MSB (CC#0) to 126 for SFX kits, and 127 for Drum kits. If you're using a hardware XG device, make sure you're NOT using channel 10 for non-drums! S-YXG50 hardlocks it into a drum kit channel as per General MIDI requirements. (unless you use Sysex to turn it into a normal channel - please watch out when doing this, dialing it the MSB to 126 or 127 will lock the channel back into a kit channel, requiring the sysex again!)

SFX kits (MSB 126):
001 SFX 1

002 SFX 2

Drumkits (MSB 127 or Ch10):
001 Standard Kit 1

002 Standard Kit 2

009 Room Kit

017 Rock Kit

025 Electronic Kit

026 Analog Kit

033 Jazz Kit

041 Brush Kit

049 Orchestral Kit

Special thanks to ValleyBell for elaborating on some of S-YXG50's quirks vs hardware implementations close to it (MU50)
