(owo) What's this?
This is a list of all legal-to-use XG patches, matching up to S-YXG50. Every MU-series device is guaranteed to have these (and more!), albeit the sound may be different, beyond just DAC and other analog differences. The MU100 and later devices in particular feature a reworked sample set, but they also allow switching to a "MU Basic" sound map, which is closer to older MU-series devices.
Any other XG device may support at minimum everything here, although we wouldn't know for sure. If you have some random device that claims to have the XG standard, it's worth sitting down and checking against every patch here!
Use this info for the BotB
XG format.
Patch table
WARNING: This list is long, as XG features almost 500 different instrument patches!
XG patches
NOTE: Your synth needs to be switched into XG mode for you to be able to use Bank CC#32, LSB (Control Change, Least Significant Bit), otherwise it will be ignored. To reset any compliant synth into XG mode, send the following SysEx message (hexadecimal):
F0 43 10 4C 00 00 7E 00 F7
While S-YXG50 starts out in XG mode by default, it is still recommended to insert this SysEx message if possible.

GS patches
Using the following SysEx message, you can set the synth into GS mode:
F0 41 10 42 12 40 00 7F 00 41 F7
This gives you access to a different set of patches, reflecting the Roland GS set of patches. Unlike XG, GS uses Bank CC#0, MSB (Control Change, Most Significant Bit) rather than Bank CC#32 LSB for bank switches.
However, most of the sounds found in here are identical to the already-existing XG patches, with only a very small amount (three, to be exact) being exclusive to GS mode:

For an overview of all the GS patches, refer to the S-YXG50 data sheet linked at the end of this article.
GM2 patches
By setting the MSB (CC#0) to 121, and then using various LSB (CC#32) values, you can access yet another set of patches, reflecting the General MIDI 2 standard. However, these are even less interesting than the GS patches above; not only does it also contain a lot of XG duplicates, its six unique patches don't even work!
As with the GS patches, please refer to the S-YXG50 data sheet for an overview of the GM2 patches.
(If you're interested in the non-functional exclusive patches, look for PdlSteel, MidT.Gtr, DistRthmG, BassHit+, 6th Hit and Euro Hit.)
SFX
Individual sound effects may be used by setting a channel's MSB (CC#0) value to 64. Not all programs will correspond to a SFX.

Drum kits & SFX Kits
Can be activated on any MIDI channel by setting MSB (CC#0) to 126 for SFX kits, and 127 for Drum kits. If you're using a hardware XG device,
make sure you're NOT using channel 10 for non-drums! S-YXG50 hardlocks it into a drum kit channel as per General MIDI requirements. (unless you use Sysex to turn it into a normal channel - please watch out when doing this, dialing it the MSB to 126 or 127 will lock the channel back into a kit channel, requiring the sysex again!)
