The (mandatory) Creative Commons licenses were introduced to BotB in 2011 for the Winter Chip VI battle. BotB assigns two licenses to all entries: 1) to give the artist their right to redistribute their work any way they like, and 2) allow BotB to distribute their work in any way BotB wants so long as there is attribution to the artist.

Specifically:

• Creative Commons Attribution NonCommerical ShareAlike License will be displayed on the entry's page.
• BotB reserves a Creative Commons Attribution NoDerivative License on this entry so long as the entry is available for free to the BotB community (which is also free).
