Lyceum Basics
The Lyceum is BotB's wiki-esque learning center. Here
BotBrs who reach Level 7, find themselves with
Bonus Magic Power to share their wealth of knowledge in editing or adding to this repository of wisdom. Naturally, we would ask that published article be interesting, concise, relevant, AND useful to the average BotBr. Please use common sense when starting new articles or editing existing ones: read the guideines below.
Search
The Lyceum's homepage has a basic search query form. It will look for any article, titles, or texts which
contain your search query. Since it does not use spaces to separate query words, searching concisely will get more relevant results.
Pro tip
As it is a google search engine, you can use google search tricks. For example, if you want to search articles in the Lyveum, add to your key word(s):
site:http://battleofthebits.com/lyceum
Punctuation, symbols & operators in search
Editing Articles
As noted above, once a BotBr reaches Level 7, they obtain the
Bonus Magic Power to edit and add Lyceum articles. Once this happens, an 'edit' button becomes visible right next to the title at the top of each article.
When a BotBer becomes level 12, the magic power extends to being able to edit
categories. Take a look at the assigned categories when editing an article and adjust if necessary.
Keep the following in mind:
- All text formating uses
Firki Markup, therefore HTML will not work. Check out current articles to see
Firki Markup in action to learn how to use it.
- When submitting an article edit, make sure to fill in the 'Editor's Notes' for the Lyceum. This note is placed in the article's history.
- When referring to a subject, try to refer to an article within the Lyceum as much as possible instead of outside. This reduces the risks of broken links and enhances the maintainability.
- Check for broken links.
- If you're level 12 or higher, check and edit the
Article categories.
- Use the
Firki Markup for sub headers.
- You can use a template to make sure you cover as much as necessary. Go to edit-mode of the template and copy and past it in the new/t be updated article. Remove redundant headings.
Discuss
On every article, in the top right, you can find a DISCUSSION button. It is right next to the Edit and History-Buttons. There, you can talk with people about how articles could get improved as well as leaving general criticism.
