MilkyTracker View HTML Version

MilkyTracker is an open source, multi-platform music application for creating .MOD and .XM module files (part of what we call s3xmodit). It attempts to recreate the module replay and user experience of the popular DOS program Fasttracker II, with special playback modes available for improved Amiga ProTracker 2/3 compatibility.

'[#[Capabilities]

MilkyTracker has built in configuration and option panel, for configuring things like window size, keymaps, and whether to display sharps or flats.

'[#[Expert tricks]
MilkyTracker works exclusively on samples, and is meant to be used for sample based music.

It is possible to simulate "chip-style" music, by using the built in sample generator. You can generate square, triangle, saw, sine waves, and even three types of noise. The main downside is that you have to draw the square wave's duty cycles yourself, unlike other trackers that automate the process.

The sample editor possesses any feature that you would wish to find in a modern sampler, like resampling, editing, and drawing capabilities.

The other big weapon at your disposal is the instrument editor, where you can accurately draw volume and panning envelopes, and have access to many controls like vibrato speed and amplitude.

You have a wide amount of standard command effects at your disposal, that you must use in your song: some of the most useful being the pitch slides (1,2,3), the vibrato (4), the infamous arpeggio effect (0), setting your song BPM and speed (F), and many moar.
See '[[Milkytracker Effects Commands] for a complete reference!

A great in depth manual with keyboard shortcuts, and effects commands explained, can be found '[l[http://milkytracker.titandemo.org/docs/MilkyTracker.html/[here].
