Star Bars is an music routine for the Atari 2600 developed by Aleksi Eeben. It was released on August 1, 2023 in the form of a music tracker for the Commodore 64.
Capabilities
In order to get around the TIA sound chip being out of tune, Star Bars uses a method known as Tiatonic Tuning to improve the TIA's frequency resolution by 8x, allowing it to play the full chromatic scale over 6 octaves. However, F#2-D#3 and F#6 and above are considered to be somewhat out of tune.
Due to how often the Atari 2600's registers are updated (up to 32 times per frame), it is difficult to use music in programs.
The editor can export both PAL and NTSC ROM images.
