Information about Composer 667

Composer 667 is the first 9 channel digital audio tracker for PC, which uses Ad lib based instruments. It was created by Tran [a.k.a. Tomasz Pytel] Renaissance for the DOS operative system and stoped further development when Composer 669 came out, software which dropped Ad Lib instrument support for instead the use of sampled music.

What Composer 667 can do?

Composer 667 allows you to use 9 channels to compose and play music on simultaneously, each mod can have up to 64 instruments using a maximum of 1408 KBytes of memory.

Each mod can have 128 patterns as most, with 64 rows each one.
The screen only shows in VGA 80x50 text mode
The keyboard commands in Composer 667 are most of just 1 keystroke
The mixing and output is done at 22 kHZ in the 667 Format.

System Requirements

- From 386 computers to better.
- A 2 MBytes RAM. (1408 KBytes extended.)
- A VGA Card.
- An Ad Lib sound card or a sound card that support Ad Lib instruments as the Sound Blaster sound card for mono music or a Sound Blaster Pro to get stereo music.
- A DOS 3.0 as operative system or adove.

Images of Composer 667

You can see images of how Composer 667 looks like here:
- How does Composer 667 look if you load a module in it

As Composer 667 were later replaced by Tran's most recent tracker called Composer 669, they are bundled on the same ftp server.
Please note that both Composer 667 and Composer 669 are completely different trackers that aims completely different formats.
The Composer 669 goes from the 1.1 version to the final 1.3 version while Composer 667 is the base 1.0 version.

You can download both from here:
- Composer 667 and Composer 669 Download links from ModLand FTP repository.

How to run Composer 667 from newer hardware?

You can run Composer 667 on any machine that can run DOSBox, FreeDOS or MSDOS from 3.0 to higher.
BUT DOSBox users will most likely encounter an error saying:
Not enough extended memory to run this program!!!
This is fixed by disabling XMS, EMS and UMB in the text configuration that appears on the DOSBox root directory when you run DOSBox for the first time.

Module demo for Composer 667

I could not find any module repository that nest 667 anywhere on the internet, so i made a demo song for Composer 667 for researching purposes which you can download here:
- SUNSET.667 demo made by ViLXDRYAD

- The Sultan's Theme BotB's entry made by Mistor Monitor

You might press the right click button over the link and select Save as... in order to download the module file.

Usage of Composer 667

To open module files on Composer 667 you must put the module files on the same folder of the executable, then use the cd command on your DOS operative system to the folder with the executable and the modules inside.
This done, open the module with the COMPOSP.EXE program by typing: COMPOSP MODULENAME
For example here is a image of what to type to open my SUNSET.667 module demo:
- How to open the SUNSET.667 module file on Composer 667 under a DOS operative system.

This done, press ENTER and you may be inside the tracker seeing the desired module project in it.
If you input a module name that does not exist on the same folder of the Composer 667 executable, a new file with that name will be created and you may see the tracker with a blank project.
