Faunatone is a MIDI tracker written by
Jangler and designed with microtuning in mind. This article documents how Faunatone can be used for various BotB formats. For non-MIDI formats, this is usually a question of having an appropriate plugin that supports independent, multi-channel pitch bends.
adlib, opl2, opl3
No support due to lack of export format; however,
adljack can be used for OPL3 emulation.
allgear, fakebit, wildchip
Some MPE synths (like
Surge XT) are compatible with Faunatone's MPE mode. Drum machines/plugins normally work fine in any mode.
midi
Faunatone supports MSGS MIDI in its GM and GS modes.
mt32
Faunatone's MT-32 mode provides MT-32 compatibility.
remix
One option is to use
Polyphone to create a soundfont from the samples in the bitpack, then use
BassMidi VSTi or
VirtualMIDISynth for playback.
sc55
Faunatone's GS mode helps with navigating GS CCs and patches.
sgen
Genny is unstable (buggy, crashes) but can probably be used with Faunatone.
adljack can be used for OPN2 emulation, but lacks export.
spc
C700 is compatible with Faunatone if each Faunatone channel is given a MIDI channel range of 1-8.
xg
Faunatone's XG mode helps with navigating XG CCs and patches. XG features that use SysEx (notably insert effects) are not currently supported.
