i think i blinked and suddenly its dec 31, so naturally i ask myself the same question as every year: wat?

my 2024 was super wild... everything was completely different than what i planned it to be, but now that i look back on it, i dont really mind.

botb-wise, i actually failed my one goal that i had... reaching lvl32... but i wldnt call this a failure really, because at the end i managed to get really close to it, and i had a lot of fun while getting closer and closer. the main reason why i didnt power through at the end was that i realized, it could take away some of the fun i had - and i wld rather miss a goal than fun.

i got some other smaller things done though: completing the oops major, getting the gamebattle art badge and the x68k badge, i threw money at puke to finally get custom playlists (not sure how much that counts because i chilled while puke did all the work but HEY)

now for 2025, my main goals are clear:
- get to lvl32 (for real now) (or the point equivalent of it, in case a new level system comes around)
- get the remaining badges as of right now
- do collabs again, especially with people i never collabed with!

pls talk about ur own reached/missed 2024 and upcoming 2025 goals in this thread!

Provided I will have the time, my goals are to become a Signalist again, and to do my first collab.

(I'm a bit miffed about not finishing my Jeskola Buzz and Orca tracks for Oops, given how rare Signalist majors are.)

Got my eyes set on the FamiStudio badge and hitting lvl 17 for 2025.
I also will try to get some collabs in, but knowing myself I'm probably not gonna pull through with that.
(I guess beating depression would also be cool but that's a stretch goal)

As for 2024, I didn't think I'd stay here this long so I never bothered to have goals, yet here I am writing this so uh...

my 2024 was mostly just moving house, adjusting to very big changes and honing my 2-op fm skills (through the opl2)

my resolution for 2025 is probably to actually learn addmusick and maybe listen to more varied music for inspiration

i don't have much for 2024 cuz i only joined like 6 months ago (and also started using trackers as a result) but for 2025 i certainly wanna get better at writing actual stuff (plus doing a collab) and not having arps then have it loop like a minute in, and also getting 7 badges so i can host org battles then eventually get the org badge from that lol, also improving at time management maybe?

I am so glad i got to join this community (January 2024) and meet you people, my music skills have significantly improved since I've joined. Before joining BotB i couldn't make anything longer than 30 seconds on a piano roll. Now, I can comfortably make pretty 3 minute songs on a tracker!

I would also like to say how I've grown sick of piano rolls throughout this year. I can't stand having to draw notes with the mouse, moving my right hand from keyboard-to-mouse-to-keyboard. Now, being able to make my song only using the keyboard, spilling my ideas onto the rows and orders the moment i think of them -- now THAT's perfect... although that's probably what sheet music is about.

my goals:

1. Participate in SNES stuff (why was there no snes stuff from November to now). It's the soundchip I work with primarily and it's a format I feel comfortable competing in

2. Lecture you with a thirty dollar haircut. It's thanks to BOTB that my entire youtube feed is just thirty dollar website songs. I also own a fast computer so I think I can make some neat stuff

3. Pick up a few easy formats. .it, fakebit, etc..

4. expand my original SNES sample pack. I want to see the DFC grow to point where it can rival lil' SNES. Maybe once I have enough boons I'll host a SNES battle with the DFC as the bitpack

make noises, some good and some not good but somehow intriguing all the same

botb-wise, perhaps take part in more battles as time goes on, get better at using trackers + music overall, get over comment-related anxiety and so on. i don't particularly mind being any role so i don't aim for stuff like dat, 4 now anyway.

my big off-botb goal of the year was to move somewhere else, and i accomplished that and i'm happy!

i don't have a whole lot left on my botb bucket list other than to just keep participating where i can. particularly, i want to host more xhbs again - it's been harder to find that time since i moved, esp on the weekends, but hosting is the thing i find most gratifying. it's so cool that thousands of little (or medium or large) songs have been made because i brought some battle or series to life

tbh my musical goals for 2025 are primarily to focus more on personal projects instead of compos, and to follow through on some parboiled plans for deeper, larger collaborative endeavors. i am a creature of 1001 interests and i need to buckle down and finish some ideas off and start more of the ones that feel most enticing. (i recently signed up for a library card here just so i could check out a bunch of books to research a topic for a new album idea!) releasing music is such a challenge in that there's more to it than just finishing some songs. i have a queue going at this point. there will be so much on the horizon in 2025! yeah!

I can't remember if I had any goals for this year. I think they were "work on my website" and "release music" which I did both of. I need to keep doing cool things so I can fill out my website more. Hopefully more musical web experiments and music coming for 2025, I definitely have a backlog of good unreleased stuff from botb.

My botb goals are: collab with people who aren't damifortune, collab with people who are damifortune, fix the search page when it inevitably breaks for some reason, host

I wanted to get to lvl 27 by march 2025 and make a new account. I don't know if that's still true but I might do it

unfortunately i’ve failed my main goal of badging up before the new year. next year i ideally want to finish off with more than one badge and host a few ohb’s. reaching mighty status is the end goal but who knows? maybe i’ll hit that by next year.
i’ve also yet to do any collab with entries that got finished, so maybe this year i’ll try to collaborate with people (anyone interested, hit me up for sure)

outside of botb i’ve accomplished my goal of releasing music on streaming platforms (same username as here, on most streaming sites for those interested) but haven’t finished a full album, just some singles. next year i want to release a full album or two.

Well I failed postponed my main 2024 goal of releasing my first album due to an unexpectedly busy semester. But I did get a lot of cool medals on my profile this year and had an entry place 2nd overall in a major, so I'm pretty happy with my BotB successes!

2025 goals:
- Release my album
- Get good at LSDJ and earn GameBoy badge (now that I have a GameBoy DMG to learn on!)
- Obtain Gold NSF badge (only 28 more to go!)
- Obtain Photomash badge

p.s. I'm also down to do more collabs this year

I didn't really have any plans this year other than participate in battles and learn some tools and new ways to make art and music! A year ago I had no idea how to make chiptunes, use trackers, make modular music or even use samples for that matter, so I think I've come a long way since then!

As for 2025, I want to focus a bit more on quality over quantity. Really commit to some ideas I've had for a long time and be a little more confident and adventurous with what I do (both with art and real life). I usually fall into some kind of productivity hole, and just end up stressing myself out, so I want to focus more on just having fun and learning and socializing, and maybe I'll make something cool along the way!

My BotB goals are mainly just to be more social (maybe collab with someone!), join and host battles for formats I like, and get the silly badge!

I released an EP

, hosted some SunVox battles, submitted to Future Battles, went 23/24 on Advent Calendar entries, and reached level 24. All of which were unspoken goals (though I would have liked to complete the Calendar).

(I also won a major, which was not a particular goal and genuinely surprised me!)

Overall, though, I think I got a little too preoccupied with goals this year. I made some entries I wasn't enthusiastic about for Spooky 8 in the race for level 24. And while going for Advent completion did push me into some new things I'm glad to have tried (the TIC-80 day in particular was one where I couldn't quite believe what I'd made at the end), it started feeling more like obligation than fun in the second half.

So my goal (or anti-goal?) for 2025 is to not fixate on reaching a specific level or site benchmark, not attempt completion on any battles, and pick and choose projects that seem fun.

I'd like to host OHBs in a greater variety of formats -- more SunVox, but maybe also some remix/s3xmodit with unusual bitpacks, maybe some FM, maybe a silly idea I had for a Jummbox series.

I'd also like to do a collab! I keep thinking this would be nice and then not taking the initiative, in part because I'm afraid of anyone else being dependent on me finishing something and I've gotten severe writer's block on collab attempts in the past. But I think 2025 will be the year for it!

as far as botb goes, i never really expected to make it as far as i have in the ~3 months i've been active, and i certainly didn't expect people to join botb because of me

i've really enjoyed my time here though - it's an outlet for my creativity that i didn't know i needed, and the community surrounding it is full of cool people

so for 2025 I'd love to put roots down even further; mb a few songs for the modarchive? for chiptune up? mml entries? burying a few more of my most hard worked on tunes in more doom maps; more smw maps?

my BotB goal for 2025 is mainly to diversify what formats I do. stop doing just mixist formats.
the ones I want to focus on (and hopefully badge in) are
- NSF
- Famistudio
- Midi or SC55
- Visuall/Draw/Any Battle Art format

other goals are just to host more battles, absolutely get a JummBox badge it feels wrong to not have it honestly, and try other random formats like Vocal or Moau

Do more entries in winter chip than I did in advent, then after that just do anything that speaks to me in the moment!

well i joined botb half a year ago, so i didnt have many goals, really. but i did go from never finishing, let alone showing my music to anyone to posting a bunch of stuff on this site, which is pretty wild for me since i struggle with anxiety and all that. so i consider that a big accomplishment, stated goal or not.

i did want to reach mighty before 2025, which i didnt cause i felt burnt out last year (and also bought UFO50 whoops), but oh well. im close enough, i guess lol

anyway, goals for next year:

-be more consistent in finishing stuff for majors
-get better at chip/trackers, and get at least one chippist badge
-get a plain text badge
-get better at singing/lyrics, maybe go for a vocal badge
-learn game dev stuff (whether or not there's events here on botb)
-just generally be more polished and consistent with my music

might also try hosting if i get any ideas. regardless if i do that or anything else i plan with my goals, very much looking forward to this year!

Never told this to anyone, but I've been trying to promise myself I would stop joining majors since after Summer Chip of 2023. But then I joined Very Rare Formats II. And then I joined Winter Chip XIX. Etc.

Now, I'm finally letting it be known in case this helps me: I want to stop joining majors.

Majors are the heart of the site, sure. But personally, I get more social satisfaction from XHBs.

2024 was a very nice year. I joined here and participated in a few OHB's and Majors. didn't really have a goal in mind when it came to them, just hoping for the best and taking it as a chance to make more music.

- getting silvar dos module/remix badge (DONE)
- archive some musics source file (vanilla, unedited)
- uploading some in modarchive (extended, edited)
- releasing some botb musics somewhere (other than soundcloud)
- being major completionist again

I want to avoid people who are skeptical of anyone who isn't part of their very tight knit group of friends because these people make me feel isolated.

Interestingly I've made at least one entry each year, with 2021's case being a single entry at the beginning of the year. I actually nearly failed to do so for 2024 until I entered in Oops! All New Formats in the new MML category towards the end of the year... because I wanted to show off the Terrific Audio Driver with source MML, samples and all.
