hi, uh, i mentioned in the discord how its sad that theres no gfx format for mario paint

so im here to request mario paint finally becoming a format on botb, the accepted filetypes could be emulator savestates or a save file. you also dont have to worry about this format being an old ass snes game because theres a little format called "super mario world" which might also require an old ass snes game

also it would be cool if the class points the format gave you were pixelist

I like the idea of this one in spirit, though it is pretty unfortunate there's no elegant way to share the results of your efforts

yeah mulling this over a bit more, I don't like that it lacks a good way to share/upload your entries, and I also don't particularly like that it requires the actual game.

the game thing is a grey area that we've allowed exceptions for before, and tbh I do think the same argument for super mario world applies to mario paint as well. I think it's fitting, conceptually, as a format. it is, as they say, "a classic", and art focused to boot! but I still don't love the idea of adding more formats that require ownership or piracy of a thing, especially in this case with something that's hard to even submit for. it's kinda just savestates, emulator saves and photos, right? needing one of 100 different snes emulators sounds tricky for voting and for filetype allowances. is there any kind of patching or extraction/import people could use to open an entry up?

i mean if i have the time i could try and make a way to extract images from sram/a savestate or something

you can also just, like, use any drawing program as if it were mario paint
unless you are utilizing the sound and animation features which is like a whole nother thring

i really honestly support the idea of the n64 Mario Artist game being a format too. wherher in place of this, or in tandem, i don't know... i just really really wanna get me and other peeps to use it more cuz i love it & need an excuse to use it more often

your point doesnt make sense since most formats can be done in a collection of like 10 formats, also "do it in another format" is such a boring argument

I meant submitting a png that you made in aseprite to the mariopaint format so long as it matches the game's specifications. or we could make a png -> mariopaint save converter pretty easily if you feel that's important

i honestly was seeing this as a format that like, you have to use mario paint (snes) and the built-in tools to make your image/animation, but i also understand that's pretty hard to enforce if people make converters and whatnot.

i think part of the charm for me as a format is that we just use the built-in tools to make the image, rather than the medium itself being the limitation, it has a certain look and could be fun with the stamps and animations and music all coming together i wanna say
