when i was at a record store in chicago i picked up this record "Konami Code" on a total whim because i liked the album art and name. i just knew it would end up being cool

thinking once again about this inspiring opening theme from the anime "texhnolyze" that i have been quite enamored with ever since first starting that show, it's sooo good. the opening sequence is great as a whole but the music is some serious goals, i'd love to be able to make something like that... such a cool mixture of fantastic sound design and killer gritty beat, or as i like to put it, brain music and body music. the freaking high-Q hats!! what!! the full song is good but honestly i like the pacing of the edit for the anime OP more lol... it's succinct and still easy to follow

Never seen this movie, but my spouse has the soundtrack on vinyl, and I (fittingly) fell in love with it immediately.
IMO this nails "love theme" better than any other song I've heard - the A section is perfectly sweet and soothing, while the B section really nails a dramatic sense of yearning.

didnt like it when it first came out, but its grown on me more with each listen. lovers of hum/failure/soundgarden/converge/mastodon(the band) maybe take a look
cave in's back catalogue is pretty varied - for instance i started with antenna and thought they were kind of meh middle of the road rock, then i listened to the album before it (jupiter) which was anything but, and fell in love, so depending on your starting point you may have different expectations
here's also an uneccessarily good snes ost called last bible iii which from the sounds of it, you would think would be some western edutainment sunday school game, but turns out its a younger audience spinoff from shin megami tensei, almost like the 'ff mystic quest' of the series.

Im actually listening to Takashi Kokubo (小久保隆) - Barcelona ～ Gaudi’s Dream. I've discovered this artist like three weeks ago and oh man, his songs are so inmersive and relaxing. These are perfect to study or to make your friends get comfy in a d&d game idk, i've never played one but im pretty sure that if this album was the background music for the adventure it would be so memorable

everglow probably stands out better as a whole but because thats the intention behind how it was built, plus ken andrews behind the mixing desk makes is hard to compare other releases properly because he just adds a lil extra flourish to anything.
that said there still are some good individual songs in this collection

You Are Invited is a track I never quite forget about - the points in the track where the song opens up and reveals itself more fully are so special. the way the drum machine's cold computery sequences help position the guitars' arrival to be warm as a blanket by way of contrast.

I've been an owen fan for a billionty years and I thought it was so cool how this most recent record (2020) started incorporating The Guitar. I got the impression maybe they had been learning it in earnest (after being a very creative violinist prior, building shows around that with loop pedals). I saw them open for ichiko aoba earlier in the year and The Guitar was a big part of their current live set which was even cooler. it's both a neat artistic development and, well, just a powerful tool for great music in the hands of someone as nuanced as owen. I felt the passing of time watching them perform this one. it had been like 14, 15 years since I saw them last.
