8-Bit Music Maker is an online sequencer, programmed in Scratch by '[l[https://scratch.mit.edu/users/hmnwilson[hmnwilson] and designed for the creation of NES-styled songs. It was released on November 15, 2015, and is available '[l[https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/87829696/[here]. Four sample songs are provided, plus a hidden Megalovania cover (type "sans" without the quotation marks). '[#[Usage] Hold the Shift key while clicking the green flag, otherwise an error saying to do so will appear. This enables Turbo Mode, which speeds up code execution to as fast as the device can handle. Now you can click the green flag to start the program. The program supports pulse (12.5%, 25%, 50%/square), triangle and noise waves, but not PCM, tempos between 100-400 BPM and up to 99 pages of 32 short, predefined notes. Two octaves (C3-B4) are supported, except for noise, which only supports the first 16 (up to #D4) due to the NES's limitations. Unlike the NES, which is limited to two pulse and one triangle, noise and PCM channels via its 2A03 APU, notes can be placed anywhere on the Notes pane, allowing for more instruments to play at once, with the exception of multiple waves of the same type and pitch. The song is still retained if the green flag is clicked again. To start over with a new song, hold the 9 key for three seconds. More in-depth usage can be found by clicking Help, or additionally rolling over each button to find out their hotkeys where available. '[#[Exporting] Once you are done composing, click "Get Code" to bring up the instructions to export a text file. Please note Scratch 3.0 simply exports the file as Code.txt, named after Code, the list which stores its would-be contents. The program is incapable of exporting to an audio file. Instead, the device's audio has to be recorded, which can be accomplished by setting your audio recorder to record it directly. Tools such as '[l[https://www.audacityteam.org/[Audacity] can do so in software.
