I know that we have blocked parts of the site (batols, profiles) from guest accounts, in order to keep chatbots and botnets from scraping BOTB data with websearches. How long have we been doing this? Half a year?

Anyways, I've seen a lot of lvl 0 n00b thread creation spam happening in the last month and it oddly lines up with agentic AI making it into the headlines.

Examples:
1st occurence
2 times is a coincidence
3 times is a pattern
Hartman's reign of terror

another bad actor
it's happening again
we're screwed

Now, I'm sure that every once in a while someone wants to troll and makes an account just to do something weird. Has anything like this back to back happened though? If I had to guess, these are AI agents that are creating accounts just to cause havoc.

Is there any way to stop this? Captchas are just a gesture at this point and I'm not sure a 2 factor would do anything

spam accounts, threads and posts have been happening on forums, including this one, for decades prior to the "AI" boom. (in fact the volume of this went way down when we shifted from the age-old .org to the new .com!) it's plenty possible the text is chatgpt generated now but I don't find it to be an unusual amount at this point. if the volume were a few orders of magnitude higher then it might be too tiresome for us to moderate (and thus warrant another option) but thankfully we're not near that point!

well honestly I think these modern OpenClaw AI agents are more sophisticated than the spam that's linked in this thread, not saying that's a good thing. damn clankers >:/
