I sure am not a prolific artist, but I might just have to take you up on this… I’ve been meaning to get some character drawing practice in, after all…

My art skills still aren't that great and I didn't even start making my fursona. I'll have to wait and decide if I want to participate or not...

would it be possible to use a 3d render instead of a drawing or would that clash too much with everything else

excellent question! i'm bound to think a little bit more about this in the future but here's my stance as of right now

the purpose of this project is to highlight the art styles of botbrs, whether they be a traditional artist, a 3d modeler, or a vector designer. as such, i think "does it clash?" is beaten out by "does it represent the botbr's art style?" as well, this will be arranged on a scene, hence why i've asked the people i've replied to so far to send a transparent bg version if possible. thus, i will be shading and doing color balance where needed, though not to the point where collaborator's artistic choices are nullified by my own as editor, at least without permission from the collaborator first.

in short, while it is interesting to think about, this project is an open communal effort. i think worrying about it clashing is not needed, at least at this point in the collab

Good point... that would change the format being submitted to from Draw to Visuall though. Personally I'm indifferent; I'll leave it up to lumby to determine which battle it gets submitted to.

I’m aware, I was simply commenting as someone who is farming for a Draw badge and not farming for a visuall badge. But I’m still neutral, and will probably even try also submitting my own solo drawing to the all-stars battle haha

I didn't propose the BotB All-Stars major just so people could draw themselves.

EDIT: the idea of BotB All-Stars is that you draw your own version of everybody, much like OPM did a few times for other majors.

I know that whether or not an extension will happen is unknowable at this time, but is there a specific date you would like people to have sent their contribution to you by?

everyone should have their drawings in by may 12th at the latest, so as to accommodate for the initial entry period we have at the moment. that is NOT to say you should drop everything by the 12th though; if there is an extension and you start late, there is a chance i can include your drawing in the collab. this is a big if here though so i'd say if you have a drawing, get it done as soon as you can but do not feel like there's a commitment to being in this collab. in the end, it's all just for fun :)

Follow-up: Does it count if I send it the night of the 12th according to the BotB timezone 😳

I won’t have as much time to work on it over the weekend but I can sketch out some and then probably do the bulk of the rest on Monday after work.

if it is the night of the 12th, that's fine! so long as it's in my dm's by then or a little after, i don't have a problem since i plan on starting on assembling the final piece by the 13th

I need to remind myself to work on this over the weekend, it shouldn't take too long but I don't know how to style the drawing besides a basic portrait photo, so I guess I should ask a clarifying question. Should it be a full-body drawing? And should the drawing be doing something besides just standing there or in a default pose?

said this in dm's with another artist but i'll say it here as well: it does not FULLY matter what it is, tho i would prefer a full body if possible. the point of this collab is more to be a celebration of botb's visual artists. as such, while cohesion is important, representing those artists however possible with what i am given is equally as important. thus, if you just have the time for a bust, that's fair game! i will try to make it work as best as possible either way

as for poses, i would recommend you have your character or sona do SOMETHING, whether it be holding a can of soda or waving at the camera or dancing your pants off. however, i will also refer back to the main philosophy that i have when it comes to any collab: be kind to yourself and do what you can! i would much rather have work that you actually enjoyed making rather than something that fit my own visions as an artist/director.

like i said earlier, if you can draw your character and be confident enough to send it to me, you are in. the poses, how much of the body you draw, even the completion...sure, those things are important to a degree but it isn't my main goal with this project

hi wow it's been a while! i'm updating on this mainly because i have NOT been communicative about this at all, apologies on that, so hopefully me talking about this will wrap up some loose ends

first, no, the collab will not be submitted to spring tracks now. this is due to a bunch of personal factors including (but not limited to) my graduation in may; my financial situation; my family going through their own troubles, as my dad went through 2 jobs this spring; me accidentally becoming a freelance artist, full time streamer and moderator for 4 others in the middle of all of this...the list goes on. obviously it's no excuse on my part - i need to get better at time management, i know - but hopefully it explains why i haven't been as communicative as i promised i'd be. this season has been a HECTIC one

that said, your efforts will not be in vain! i do plan on finishing the collab, though not as an entry for spring tracks. instead, i plan on posting it myself as a celebration of what botb means to the people who have joined, in honor of its 20th anniversary! this is still something i care deeply about, so of course i'm going to put the utmost effort into making it great. as well, this is so your effort will hopefully not be wasted on something that went nowhere - speaking from experience, it'd be a dick move of me to ask for art for something that didn't happen. i will try to update people on this as much as possible and get it out in a timely manner (i.e. before this year ends) though feel free to reach out to me in case you still have any questions!

this update isn't the most enthusiastic, i know, but hopefully it explains a little bit as to what's been happening with this project. if you need me, i'll be in discord as always! bl_sst
