indeed, i have taken the reins this year. you will notice that this is starting significantly earlier than previous years; this is due to both personal reasons and because it's probably a better time for most people anyway

these are the samples that will be used for the samplepacks! you can send as many as you like!!


rules (loosely copied from last year):

- S3XMODITMANIA is a tournament-style compo where each week competitors write a module (.it, .xm, .s3m, .mod) in 5 days.
- You may only use samples from the pack provided for each round (which will be compiled of samples sent in during the signup period).
- The last two days of each week are reserved for voting. We will be going back to s3m.it this year, and as such your votes should be sent directly to me, ordered from best to worst. The easiest way to do this is to either send them over IRC when I'm active or to send them by e-mail to s3x5samps@gmail.com with CLEAR INDICATION of who you are.
- A percentage of contestants who have the lowest scores for each round will be eliminated. There may or may not be a ghost round (for now, assume there will not be one).
- The remaining competitors will compete in the following round, and this will repeat until there is One Left Standing, who shall receive a fantastic trophy handed down through the generations!
- Even if you don't think you can enter, sign up anyway! Just don't get through the first round and disappear without warning since that's no fun for anyone (a joke entry is better than no entry)!!

Historically, I've demonstrated my inadequacy with this format, especially considering all of the techniques that I don't even know about making my DOS modules sound good, let alone making a decent composition 95% of the time with it.

I only use MilkyTracker because I'm not willing to wrestle with configs and keyboard shortcuts just to compose on OpenMPT with the same feel as MilkyTracker, and it will be really stupid and foolhardy of me to enter what is essentially the advent league of DOS module composition and think that I'd actually get anywhere.

also, whoever hhhhhh is - i'm not using your samples. at least cessor's samples are intended for remixing; yours seem to just be songs ripped from games (there are no sources so i can't tell). if you can prove otherwise, go ahead. otherwise, not cool

currently sitting at a total of 366 samples. packs will not be larger than 9mb [both because a) s3m.it has a 10mb limit and b) massive packs sorta defeat the point], so not all samples will necessarily be used. I will be picking samples categorically at random (unless you have specific requests, which I am glad to adhere to if reasonable).

Note that you can absolutely still send in samples! There is just no guarantee that they will all be used. I will do my best to make sure that everyone who submitted samples gets at least some used.

i'll probably end up downsampling some of the larger samples if necessary. i am going to aim for around 40 samples per pack, so if downsampling is required to get there then so be it (i will not downsample if it turns the quality down tenfold)
