Hello, bit battlers. Earlier today, I was making a song, and I had a hard time figuring out how to structure it. It made me wonder how other people manage to structure their songs. So tell me--how do y'all go about doing this?

Hello, Gooberstyle. Sometimes I will break out big sheets of paper if I'm trying to do something ambitious or on a deadline. Generally what I like best is to try and "hear" what wants to happen in my head, e.g. "what would be nice next" or "what would lead up to this." As time goes on you can hold more in your head and instead of just thinking in snippets or general vibes, you can start to think "what kind of actual section would be cool to have after this" and you can make everything more related to itself. Of course you start to have kinds of things you usually do and that's not so bad, if you know you're doing it. And of course you can go shopping for new kinds of things by listening to your favorite musickers

i like to go in blocks and change it up every 4 bars so [intro] usually no drums and just a melody [drop] drums come in maybe the melody switches up [more energy/switch up] add more percussion or instruments or take something out [break down] similar to the intro maybe different sound altogether [another drop] keep building etc etc
