In a discussion on the botb Discord/IRC chat, doopdee and me thought this would be great to have shorter XHB formats on botb, like 30 minutes battles.

In my opinion, this would be fun as a challenge similar to OHB, but harder! There is also the fact these battles would be shorter, which make them convenient for people who don't have a lot of time or who would prefer to join multiple short battles rather than a long one.

I'm just a bit afraid these would be a little hard for newcomers, I remember OHBs were already challenging for me when I started joining them (and this can still be the case depending on the format/bitpack!). Maybe it would be ok if a good amount of OHBs are hosted alongside the 30 minutes battles?


What do you think about it? We probably need to have a thorough discussion before considering adding such a feature to botb

if u want the challenge why not wait 30mins before joining the OHB? I do that all the time. now you have your 30minute battle challenge

I was thinking that these shorter battles could be for botbrs who already are quite good at making music in one hour, and want an extra challenge. The point is that everyone has to make music under that restriction.

i struggle in 1hbs, so a 1/2HB would be hell (thats a skill issue on me tho)

you can host 2-songs-in-60-minutes battles! that sort of thing has been done

HHB half hour battle
QHB quarter hour battle

not sure if this would become a thing

but if you beghast a Mario Pants OHB it has a random length between 30 and 45 minutes

5 in 60 and 6 in 60 were once time honored traditions... could certainly make 2 in 60 work

i realize doing two things is not quite the same as doing one thing, but it at least approaches the kind of challenge you're after!

i dunno - OHB is naturally catchy. 2HB and 4HB are understandable extensions that are larger events. going the other way imo has a little less charm but that's not to say it's impossible! a bit fragmenting, though..

also, if we were to add these shorter battles, the deposits would be greater not smaller :D
