Retro inspired games also have been quite successful for quite a few years now.

The big triple A titles have become so expensive, they can't take many risks anymore and therefore often end up as "one size fits all" thingies. Many people are tired of that and want at least some variety, which is why stuff like Shovel Knight, Undertale, Stardew Valley and the likes luckily have a place in modern gaming again.

I think that's how younger people start to appreciate retro aesthetics.
