The IQ test had some similar patterns after looking through it for awhile, and it really gets you in a specific frame of mind after a few questions. Like, you know where to look...

Also, I'm kinda interested in how my score correlates to the music I make, but I'm more interested to know what you think my music genre is!!!!!

they don't measure intelligence. IQ stands for "IQ quotient"

but more seriously, those types of questions mostly deal with spatial reasoning, which is one facet of cognitive ability

**IQ: 125, 32/33**

I actually have a beef with this question, which is probably the one I missed: http://imgur.com/a/9vAJr

so what is the rule? rotate clockwise? flip across the y-axis? Completing an overall symmetrical shape? Applying these possibilities left to right, top to bottom? What about top to bottom, left to right?

please, someone prove any logical consistency within this problem pointing to an undeniably correct solution lol

SPOILER WARNING TURN BACK NOW

i think the razor to use there is whether the rule can be applied both left to right and top to bottom, so in that case the rule is mirroring. i don't remember any solutions "wrapping around" to e.g. the next row the way text does, although some may have by coincidence. i wish there had been more variation, though. it would have been nice to see some wrap around and some spiral and some operate diagonally etc.

… but that's all logical consistency from outside the problem.

the second question
is the one i liked least, since if you think in terms of diagonally bilateral symmetry you come up with a different answer than if you follow the patterns from the rest of the test, which you haven't taken yet. maybe the spacing of the figures was supposed to discourage that line of thought?

hmm, well if the rule for those 2x2 ones were, "solution = a AND b, where a is the rule for traversing horizontally and b is the rule for traversing vertically" then I got them right. and I guess that's fairly established internally, at least between the 2x2's we both mentioned, since you can revisit previous ones you looked at already. in that case I have no idea what I missed lol

edit: actually no, there's still not anything to internally solidify whether the rule is to rotate or mirror. in any case, left to right or top to bottom, both rules hold and both rules give different solutions, even when cross referencing the other 2x2

maybe in a couple weeks we all could discuss and post the solutions here

oh yep, you're right. the rotation and mirroring both work and give different solutions. mirroring seems more "obvious" given the implied shape, but you're totally right that either solution is valid.
