There was an idea in the IRC a while ago about DAW workshops that I found myself reading and proposing an idea after a discussion about the relevancy of tracker music, but here's a topic gauging for interest in me hosting a few FL Studio (maybe other DAWs that I'm familiar with, too, like REAPER, Ableton, etc) workshops for people wanting to participate in Allgear battles.

Basically, how I'm imaging I'd handle it is that I'd host a livestream every so often and start a series of workshops within a DAW (which mostly will be FLS because of my familiarity with it), showcasing both my understanding of the software and introducing concepts that come with one after being used to working with trackers. This'd include working with piano rolls, basic production techniques (and later, advanced techniques if the series has enough interest) and basic mixing.

If you're interested in something like this, or would like to participate and help yourself, please leave a comment in here! Everything will be done live and I will only do this is if there's enough people to support it regularly, but I will definitely upload recordings of the streams to my YouTube account for people to watch after. Also please let me know if there's anything in particular you'd like me to cover if you are interested!

The first thing I'd be interested in is how to get a proper multi-part arrangement done in FL Studio. (and use pitch/volume slides like I'm used to in trackers). Then I'd be interested in mixing them together properly. :P

I could learn a thing or two in FL! I'd be game, depending on the time! Would we just be working with the basic, pre-packaged soundfonts and plugins and stuff or would we have to go out and buy/download things to be able to keep up?

I would be very interested in both learning and helping! :D
I've used FL Studio for much longer than trackers (4yrs vs. 1yr) and have a somewhat decent knowledge of its functionality (alongside synthesizers, fx, mixing, sample manipulation, etc.) but even then I feel like I've only scratched the surface of its potential.

Plus I'd love to get an insight into how other BotBrs use their software, since many of y'all have far more experience and better composition skills than I do :P

DimWiddy, I'd be using stuff that comes with the box if I can wherever possible. I'd be using basic generators and samples at the very least and then move to the likes of using Harmor.

Some of the main things I'd cover in detail, I'm thinking:
- Piano Rolls, MIDI & CC automation (pitch, vibrato, volume & panning, etc)
- Taking full potential of the playlist
- Managing and recording multi-track audio, though I doubt I'll need to go too indepth into this (I will cover it the best I possibly can, however)
- Automation within the playlist to control synths, hardware & manipulate audio
- Using effects appropriately and inappropriately to do Cool Sounding Things Using Terrible Sounding Methods (Trademark Pending)
- Perhaps programming synthesizers? Sound design still isn't my strongest point, but I'd say that I'm certainly well versed in it enough to explain how to make commonly sought after sounds.

That's mainly what I have in mind, but I'm almost certain there's a lot more that I could cover that'd be more useful to people. The more, the better, I feel.

Great idea DalekSam! That would be a great help to a lot of Botbrs I think.
I know the following DAWs very well: Logic, Cubase, Reason, Cool Edit Pro/Adobe Audition. So if anybody has any questions on those, I'm happy to lend some support whenever I have time.

moot, your knowledge and expertise in this subject would be great for this sort of thing, it'd certainly mean a lot if you could help out! I think the more knowledge we can share with each other to help us all out, the better ;)

I feel like there may just be enough interest in this to justify it, then, it'd just be a case of organizing it to get as many people in on watching it live. The week starting Monday 18th through to Sunday 24th is out of the option for me, since I'll be helping out on Sonic Retro and the SSRG with the Sonic Hacking Contest this year, as I've done for the last couple of years. But next week and from the 25th I'm free to do this pretty much whenever.
