Shedinja. I love both bug and ghost types, and I think Shedinja in particular has a cool design. But also, it tells a neat story using unique game mechanics in a way I kind of wish the Pokemon games did more often.

The flavor of Shedinja is that's it's the molted shell of a Nincada that's been possessed by a ghost. And the way you get one is, if you evolve Nincada into Ninjask while there's an empty slot in your party and a spare Poke Ball in your bag, Shedinja will just appear in that slot without fanfare. (I had already been spoiled on this mechanic when I first evolved a Nincada in Sapphire as a kid, and it would have impressed me even more if it had taken me by surprise.)

The selling point of Pokemon is that there's a huge quantity of distinct Pokemon designs with relatively simple game mechanics, but one consequence is that the variety in flavor isn't often backed up with variety in mechanics, and I sometimes wish there were more examples like Shedinja.

as much as im into the tcg i still have not played the actual games nearly enough yet, and my time being familliar with pokemon only really properly started about a year and a bit ago. so far ive played halfway thru the original pokemon red (in which i made the mistake of picking charmander, oops), all of pokemon sword (without the dlcs), a tiny bit thru heart gold on an emulator, and 2 trainer badges into pokemon black. so its a little hard to pinpoint a proper favourite since i still have so many to properly familliarise myself with

the whole cinderace line is definately my faves since it was my first proper starter and you really get to know and bond with pokemon in that game with the whole camp system. cinderace is just cool, raboot kind of resonates with me with the hoodie look and scorbunny is just i mean cmon. its funny because all of the pokemon merch in my area will have some kind of scorbunny figurine or plush of some kind, and it just makes me happy (perhaps its because i basically live in galar lol)

glaceon is fucking sick as hell too, its always good to have an ice type that clears everyone (which, to be fair is in a game thats baby level easy anyway). hopefully will be my selection in future runs

im also a fan of dewott since it just evolved on my team and like just look at it hes so cool with it... im not sure if im a fan of what he will become though..like holy that is just a beast

maractus is so underrated raaaah. it just looks so happy and satisfied (also its id is #556)

from my short time playing heart gold, i found sentret was a pretty fun looking one i dont see people talk about (probably because of its evolution) i like how it bounces on its tail like that

bisharp is still my fave. decidueye rocks too though
