Sooo, hi folks!

What do think about Strudel
or other TidalCycles
ports/forks? This video
just blow my mind!

i've known about it. thinking about it for a bit, it could be a cool format, tho it would be important to have some sort of offline solution that wouldn't rely on resources provided by a website which could go down in the future. maybe entries could be in the form of a zip file containing the code and whatever samples are used (or just the code if the samples are already provided in the form of a bitpack maybe)

Well I think TidalCycles itself would do just fine as an offline solution, the syntax is different though, so it's one or the other. Strudel would do fine too though, it can be packaged just like beepbox which is an established format.

remind me to submit to improvisation with one or the other. Few things will make liveplay as accessible to me as these livecoding tools.

Hmm I'm not sure but since Strudel is open source
, maybe it's possible to download it and use it offline?

This makes me think to JummBox, which can be used offline too

I wouldn't worry about the specifics of each implementation, if a new format gets introduced I'd just call it "livecoding" to be all encompassing, similar to liveplay, you could even use bytebeat then. In that case you don't argue about the details of each tool, just like you wouldn't with allgear.

i personally think the concept of livecoding is cool but the actual music/etc people make with it is tedious to listen to. the most interesting things i've heard from tidalcycles et al are short recordings of a patch (or interaction with a patch) that's already been built out, which i don't think is really "livecoding" anymore, at least not in a way that would make sense for the definition of a format like this. i also wonder what submission file format would make sense for a livecoding format - usually when i've seen livecoding music it's had accompanying video so that you can see what the codist is doing. maybe this would cause issues due to storage size of video files or maybe video of text editing could be compressed well enough for it not to be an issue

yeah I think this makes more sense to have individual formats for each tool like TidalCycles/Strudel, SuperCollider, Sonic Pi... (there is a bunch of possible examples on this page
:)

Sonic pi on top trust. It was my first music program before I archeologically discovered my mom's old fl studio account. I actually made a format request for it a while back
