Hello all. So following the newest bit of accessibility of OpenMPT for users with screen readers, I have started to try and make music with it and from taking note that sample collections for Korg and Roland are very hard to find and dump along with that yooooooooo noise, yes I really love that sound, I have started on a project to start the community sample collection, and this will be an archive that'll be by the community for the community!
A bit of background:
I was browsing through the sample topic of OpenMPT forums and something caught my eye, it's a KorgDS10 sample set.
The archive was held on Dropbox and as you all know, Db links go down a lot. I started to think of OpenMPT and because I am going to make music so that I can get some money to give back to it and its developer via a cover album, in classic Juan style, I will make sure that I do OpenMPT and the covers justice, and that means that just like my archival project, I have to go all out!
So I thought, if I am going to have Goemon in my album, how would I get to go all out with it as I have no money?
But then I realised that it's not only about the money, I want to have some nice Japanese noises as I actually love older sampled sound! So I set to work in collecting samples of the Emulator and its banks, and along with some awesome people from Mastodon we got as much as we could find even though we're missing stuff I'm sure.
Then I got another post from a user known as MutedTrampet on Mastodon, and he was showing off the wonderful yooooooooo dude sound! I wanted to find that sound as well as all of the Roland samples I could get, and all the older samples too!
So it's clear, I had a mission, but for sure it's not going to be an easy one.
About a month ago I set to work with trying to gather up the missing Emulator sounds, and I got a forum that had all of em on a wetransfer link that's of course dead, and when I tried to make an account I couldn't get past the justification system. if someone can help me with this please share and hit me up so we can get her done.
What next?
I started to go through all the ways I could get samples out of Roland .bin banks and that meant using powerIso and other programs that may or may not be accessible, only to no avail.
I had another realisation. If I wanted exact or cloce to exact old samples, then why not just go to the games that had em?
Now I am extracting samples out of Naruto ultimate ninja and working on that while Kingdom hearts and Nurse Witch Komugi are on the pending, speaking of Komugi I need to finish watching that anime.
But enough about the magical nurse, because the folder is what this post is for.
Once the first set is done as that shouldn't be that far away the folder will be posted and it'll be up to the community to make the choice, though Resilio and Syncthing are the starting choices as those do work with a screen reader, save for Resilio that just needs to left click the mouse for the UI to appear and work around the mislabeling things and other bugs from time to time.
Regardless though the folder can be on anything even IPFS, as long as we can contribute and no one person can just del everything. Take that archive.org 90s cd sample collection, your dmcas can go to hell, as this work will be community protected inside and out!
With all that out of the way what do yall say? Will ya help me?
