SRB2er asks you guys what you like: the unwanted sequel

Title says basically all there is
I (yet again :p ) lack a favourite but I think the sn76489 and MMC5 is an interesting one.

Intel i7 and Nvidia 2060 (my current work computer specs) :p

Seriously though, thanks for asking because I'm curious to see what other people say. Personally I have no strong preferences yet, still too unfamiliar.

I am a big fan of Hizmi's music written on Sharp X68000, which I believe uses the YM2151.

Probably SNES and PCMD8. I'm a sucker for sample shenanigans, proper panning, and the echo/delay.

OPL3 + OPN2 was also quite fun, though I'm not as good at them.

hmm, i haven't done enough multichipping to really give this a decisive answer, but working with 2 FM chips, or an FM plus a sample chip... both of those are luxurious situations. i like the triple combo of 2a03, n163 and second expansion, too... have done both mmc5 and vrc6 there and loved it.

2x snes is also really cool, since you get so much extra sample memory and a second simultaneous echo delay setting. (and a second microtuning

I'm not yet fixed on a favorite combo outside of the nsf+ format, for this I really enjoy the classic 2a03+n163, or also 2a03+n163+FDS if I want a strong bass.

I have an idea of experimentation in Furnace, I think it could become my fav combo: as many spc chip as possible so that I can load a whole song in the audio RAM

The most powerful combo I tried is the Sega System 16 (YM2151+SegaPCM). The FM and sample-based chips complement each other, FM bringing dynamic synthesis capabilities and a clearer texture (especially the highs), while sampling allows for a large variety of recognizable sounds.

I'd like to try more single-company combos, like NES+SNES+Gameboy or VIC20+SID+Amiga.

i don't do a lot of multichip work but my favorite multichip thing i've done used VRC6+VRC7 for some double Konami magic!

you get the classic NES sound but fuller (from the VRC6) and then the fm timbres just open things up so much, but since you're mostly limited to presets you can work quickly in that limited space

outside of that i think a lot of my all gear stuff uses a combo of "vaguely 2a03" plus "vaguely snes" plus general midi, but backed with modern samples instruments

The nu11 combo is my all time favorite. 2a03, VRC6, MMC5, and possibly FDS.

I do want to hear more multi-SID chiptune though, if the same chip multiple times counts as a combo. It probably doesn't, but I find it so uncommon that I wouldn't hesitate to call it anything as long as attention is drawn to it for a moment. Maybe one day I'll make some, and it'll become my second favorite.

I don't work much outside of M68k + YM2149, but the timers on the Motorola really make all the wild stuff in ST music possible.

I guess otherwise outside of pure chip I tend to use a Yamaha FB-01 and TG-100, and the 4-op FM and general midi-ish soundset really, really compliment each other, I think.

I normally use 2a03 and Vrc7 in famitracker, but I have taken a liking to doing more stuff with 2a03 and sid 658X in furnace. The sid filters with the 2a03 tri is excellent. maybe some opm chip added in as well ;)

My favs are 3SID, 2SNES and the MSX/SCC combos.

Love how crazy sound design can get with the same chip with expanded channels, and Konami's SCC chip just really adds flavor to some standard square wave chip.
