This has always been on my mind... why can only admins get Renderist points? Why don't we get points when we provide renders of our own non-streaming audio entries? Lastly, would it be a good idea to let BotBrs render the entries of others as a Bonus Magic Power at some level in the mid-to-upper teens? This would come with some restrictions, I'd imagine.

Because Admins do not get Renderist points for rendering their own tracks. Only for rendering other peoples tracks.
And Admins would not need to render other peoples tracks, if the other people did this in the first place.

I don't want anyone to think I'm ignoring this issue. I think level 9 is a good time to allow BotBrs to post renders (maybe move 'listed with Mighty BotBrs' to level 11), but admins will still have the right to overwrite/replace renders if they feel it necessary. Also, a BotBr shouldn't be allowed to upload a render to another BotBr's entries unless they've already done it for about 5 of their own first?

it should be more than 5, since you can actually upload 5 on any winterchip (even if your a n00b). I think more than 10 is a good start, maybe more than that. We never know if that person will upload any shit after having the right.
A system of point will actually be better. It could be something like the aura but to "know" who's a trust user. If the user has X amount of GOOD points is able to do those kind of stuff. Or just limit that to the levels. I think is the best way, levels means that you have been using botb and know how it works.

this has come up again a bit lately - i was thinking possibly an elegant solution would be to enable "renderist" as a status, like troll/zombie/mummy, except positive instead of ailment. so an admin could grant another user the right to render other people's tracks.

I've made it so BotBrs level 11 and up can also upload MP3 renders. Admins can overwrite or 'fix' these renders. No one but the BotBr who submitted an entry can upload a render for the first five minutes.

Level 11??? Curse you puke7! Someday... when I'm older...

a slight tweak to this policy that I and some other botbrs think would improve things:

- always allow a botbr to overwrite a render of their own song (not just an admin)
- increase the 5 minute lock period, maybe something like 3 hours? 5 mins isn't always enough to get a render right, even with the simpler formats.

Yeah, I ratted out one of the renders of my own song because I noticed a chunk of music missing. I later posted a render I made myself of the complete version (which had forty seconds of extra music).

I don't think he was able to do that, since the MP3 is still 1:50 long.

Wouldn't count on it. I myself accidentally uploaded a .wav instead of a .mp3 once for a render I was attempting of a SNES OHC tune (that one also wasn't mine).

ah, right, i remember that. so i guess if you are not an admin, the "upload mp3" button just disappears if there is already a render in place?

Went over this thread again.

- Admins and BotBrs lvl 11+ can't upload renders for the first hour
- BotBrs can overwrite their own renders for the first hour
- only Admins can overwrite a render after the first hour

I agree that a BotBr should be able to replace a render but with gyms behaviour recently I feel that such replacement should get okayed by an admin. That's work for me. Sorry.

24 hours might be cool actually. There has been a lot of serial OHCing, some people might be too busy doing a second compo to render.

24 hours seems reasonable to me actually, although either way, i'm happy to replace renders for people anytime if they miss the cutoff (i'm almost always idling on irc - pm me with a link to the entry and the mp3 you want uploaded, and i'll take care of it when i am able!)

Also, the BotBr who created the entry can upload their render after this period so long as they are the first to do so.
