So I made this new sound driver for teh Channel F. Sounds errr... channel f-ish, I'd say, but hey, it's got two channels! Also, 2 click drums and 15-bit frequency precision. XM converter included in the downloads (requires Perl, dasm, MESS). Have phun and let me know if you find any bugs.

wooah sounds like zxbeep haha i love it
gonna give it a try later! but im almost sure i'll have problem with this "needs x, y and z" cuz im a n00b :p but lets see!
edit: are drums restricted to a specific note (like D-5)? or i can put in whatever (as long as its between C-0 and B-5)?

b00daw, I dunno, it sounds almost kinda like there's a constant 120Hz rumble going on the backgr... oh wait. :D

raph, you can put any note for the drums, but it will always be the same after conversion. It's sampled at C-4 so it'd make most sense to use that.

All the "needs x,y,z" stuff is the same as for the original Sleizsa, except the additional Perl. Except for Perl you don't really need to install anything, just grab dasm and MESS from the original Sleizsa and dump it directly in /SleizsaDuo (no subfolders except for the MESS crap). Sorry, I know it's a bit messy (no pun intended), hope you folks can dig your way through somehow.

raph, just ask kfaraday with a cherry on pop to host a channel f ohb while i'm at work and do some bug testing. maybe irrlicht project can pop in and surprise you.

i was able to get it to work! and edited the lyceum to add info to this (hopefully its clear enough...should i have created another article to it instead of editing the channelf one? well at least its there :p)
i'd join an ohb! if im available at the time its hosted, that is
also, i think its a good idea to have a channelf category on scV so we dont have to worry about time restrictions to sort stuff out (at least not a one-hour restriction :p)

Not much of an OHBist, but I'd give it a try for the occasion ;)

I actually regret a bit that Channel F now sounds quite beeper-like, kinda ruins the charm... though, if you put the same note in both channels, it will sound quite like the original Sleizsa, especially on bass notes.

Yeah, so cool that there is something going on for Channel F! I tried to install and understand it with all the dependencies and decided to make some n00b install guide that also described the background.

Tomorrow I want to try to make something with SleizsaDuo and create a n00b user guide. I'm pretty sure for 95% of BotB it is too n00b and/or not interesting but I just like to do something too.

Please let me know where I can drop it. I guess Lyceum would be good, but I don't want to clutter the current text. Perhaps uploading it as a downloadable textfile is possible? (uh, if you know what I mean... :D)

maybe creating a new lyceum page for the Sleizsa Duo would be a good idea
one can also copypaste the info i added about it to such page, and leave a less detailed version in the format page

i've created and edited a lyceum page regarding Sleizsa Duo
http://battleofthebits.com/lyceum/View/Sleizsa+Duo/
likewise, i removed all redundant info i had added on the channelf page, leaving only the essential.
n00b, i think there is the right place to add your n00b install guide. i already left some info regarding that but you're free to do whatever you want with it, as long as its more complete and understandable afterwards :D/

you should zip de channel f bios files, upload them to dropbox or whatever and link it in the tutorial, i think that's gonna be pretty helpful
i could make a video tutorial for it someday idk

I am not the one to provide the rom files tho... yet I like your idea :) Thing is it is copyrighted.

Imho, DASM and MESS could have been in the distribution and I believe there is a way to make perl scripts able to work standalone. Creating everying in one solid package would even be better. On the other hand it is nice to be able to explain a bit what's going on and learn from it. Other than just unzip and rock 'n roll and not having a clue.

And I'd prefer Channel F to not be in the summer chip as that's the lousiest season for a battle for me :-/

I removed some 'hahahaha' from http://battleofthebits.com/lyceum/View/Sleizsa if that's what you're after.

Raphaelgoulart, maybe we should redesign the whole section for Channel F/Channel F(format)/Sleizsa/Sleizsa Duo set up?

I'll post a suggestion in post on input on lyceum.

I improved tempo control, it's now 8-bit instead of 6-bit. Meaning you can now use F01 in the XM, and base speed is 4 times higher. Please re-download ;)

Also dunno why I thought frequency precision was 15-bit, it's 16-bit. However it seems notes D-5 and up are glitching out, so those are only for the lulz.

Whoopsy... should work now. Sorry for that.

Edit: After 15 minutes of swearing at my computer, I also managed to fix the "glitching notes" bug, so the entire note range from C-0 - B-5 is now usable.
Sorry for yet another bugfix release. I'm pretty positive this will be the final version though.

hehe... well, you can still get glitchy notes by messing with music.asm. Note values of around $7x should do the trick, I believe.
