The famitracker format is a specific format of the
2a03 tracker
FamiTracker. Note that format is specifically for modules written with the original version(s) of FamiTracker, and does
NOT include modules written using later forks of FamiTracker like
0CC-FamiTracker, j0cc or Dn.
This format was first introduced on
Spring Tracks III.

Restrictions on submit
The entry must be saved in .ftm file format and created in FamiTracker (but
NOT forks of FamiTracker like 0CC-FamiTracker, j0cc or Dn) - and that's it. It's basically a no-holds-barred, any-expansion, no-limit format! Well, limited to Famitracker's stable releases.
As this format is based around the latest
stable version of Famitracker,
beta v0.5 and any features it added to Famitracker modules are
NOT ALLOWED.
Again, the last
stable version of Famitracker (v0.4.6) should be used for voting and creating! See the
Famitracker article for download links.
Note that newer versions of Dn-FamiTracker (0.5.0.0 and above) have broken .ftm saving compatibility; even if you choose to save your module as .ftm it will not load in vanilla FT.
Workarounds to get a valid .ftm
If perhaps you have already written your song in a newer FamiTracker variant (or even in Deflemask or FamiStudio), you can potentially get a working .ftm module by using rainwarrior's "NSFImport" tool, which can be found
here (backup of latest version
here as well).
Export your tune from whichever software as .nsf. Then, using NSFImport, go to
File -> Import NSF... and load in your .nsf file. You will receive a big, janky speed-1 .ftm module that you can then save and load in vanilla FT. It should sound the same with the exception of DPCM, which may not be mapped 100% correctly if there are several samples. Note that multiple expansions won't load either (it will take the first one).
For a more manual conversion, note that you can copy/paste pattern information from newer FamiTracker forks into the original. If you load in all the same instruments and put them in the same order, you should be able to fairly quickly reproduce your module in vanilla FT.
