we already have what are you good at musically, what would you like to improve on it and what have you've been improving on recently. now i'm gonna make this trilogy into a tetralogy

i'll start with my musical style:
- more or less a pop-oriented songwritting style that focuses on memorable and catchy melodies (i did try some odd time signatures time to time though)
- too many inspiration sources to count tbh
- my sound design is bright but also warm at the same time.. also kinda reverbcore at times especially since i started using Valhalla Supermassive x3
- focuses more on emotion rather than complex storytelling for the sake of it
- people can tell it's snugglycore despite me trying to do genre roulette and different styles
- insert amen break here

[MY MUSICAL STYLE / MY WAY TO MAKE MUSIC]

- repetitive
- 90s electronica-influnced
- my music must last more than 4:30 minutes (ex: i'd like to see my music must end to between 6 to 12 minutes)
- i don't like doing mixing and mastering (it's too hard, but later i'll be forced myself to do)
- it's made either in Renoise tracker or in FL Studio
- more sampling and I sample what I want (no matter it's music, movie, video games SFX, memes sounds, etc) (like The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim and Daft Punk)
- I DO WHATEVER I WANT IN MUSIC, I'M BE LIKE APHEX TWIN (haha my handmade citation, this one you must remember)
- sometimes i do triplet 1/3 (this one is used in blues rock, i guess)
- unfortunately i sometimes crack paid softwares (because i like these softwares but i don't have money for this) or/and there is some freeware stuffs to download directly and i do
- I can do 140 BPM jungle or 60 BPM trip-hop

these are my way to make music but I have others ways like that

Ooh, good thread idea. Me personally? My main influence comes from Mega Man and other NES titles, as that’s the first style I ever started making music in (and still occasionally do). So usually you’ll hear melodies in my songs that’ll make you go “hey, that sounds like a song from Mega Man”. Lately I’ve been expanding on this to go one of two ways - a more rock-ish style (which Mega Man lends itself to a little better) and a mix of keygen and disco-trance-edm.

good question, and one that i feel poorly equipped to answer

a little a jazz fusion, as a treat, and also "weird" meter

i don't think my approach to rhythm and meter is weird tho

also freeform music that doesn't take a traditional approach to structure or melody or form

I feel mines involves zelda like influenced music with a 6/8 time signature.

I love working with my pitches, (high, low, etc) and i find it satisfying when all my notes are spread out everywhere but in an organized way.

My melodies always involve long notes in each pattern just to get the feel of it.

My priority in music is getting the best emotional and nostalgic feel out of something and that involes using my chords, instrument arrangements, modes, etc.

This is probably what ive concluded to. (I think????) 😅

Great idea for a thread!

Musical style: Guitars and Gameboys

I started by listening and learning loads of rock tunes and Video game soundtracks. Mostly Koji Kondo/most nintendo stuff, into 90's grunge, Led zeppelin, andThe Wite stripes!

Nowadays it's much more a mix of Rock, Funk, and Prog metal, with a dash of Electronic/house/chiptune (and still loads of VGM scores)
(Guitar influences: Paul Gilbert, Nile Rodgers, Jeff Beck, Greg Howe?)

What i'm good at/ What I'm working on:
I come from making guitar music originally, so that's my strong point, using DAW's and layering stuff to hell!

Been slowly learning LSDJ for the last 4 years, and teeny tiny bit of other trackers. I've loved the limitation it brings and the portable writing setup when on trains etc.

Things i'm working on at the moment:

-Upping my knowledge of LSDJ, especially G commands, arpeggio delay sound magic tricks, and tables at the moment

- Exploring combining Guitar with LSDJ focused tunes (playing guitar over the top essentially)

-Exploring Utilising LSDJ sounds as layers in modern music making (synth layers and bass sounds)

-writing more in all of these formats and trying to release more music!

-trying out the odd OHB and trying not to embarrass myself when I leave metadata in my submissions like last time XD

(Sorry I blabbed hard here)

Honestly i think mine changes wayy to drastically overtime depending on what music i am listening to at the moment, so tbh i have a hard time saying what my style is.
Also if i say what my music style is, i will prob become wayy too self aware so i leave it to the person listening.

i remember when the lyceum included some hella detailed authorcore descriptions... this is a similar one, but a thread >w<

my style .. honestly includes whatever i was listening to for the past year lol. i am young and tiny and perhaps a sponge. but i cannot seem to escape being tagged as "touhou" even when i decide to stray far from it.

maybe it is the way i write melodies: singable, not many interval jumps, and trying to stay simple for sanity's sake. maybe it is the way i use the same 5 chord progressions, and always stick to them because they are the only ones that feel "right" in any context. maybe it is my lack of understanding in music theory, or because i use my sense of pitch as a crutch instead of a guide.

or, you know,, when i first started messing around in musescore (my beginning -- and most likely end -- in music-making), the works i viewed were mostly vocaloid and touhou piano arrangements, and my music app was filled with midi files from random rpgmaker games. and haruhi. so i may have learned most of my skills from these, by dropping them into musescore and listening and looking.

such such, when i work on music: i have permanently borrowed this left-hand-right-hand mentality from the piano sheets, and the orchestration methods from this website called 'presence of music,' and some main sound design points from touhou and seihou themselves. my melodies seem to be a hasty mix between digimon evolution insert songs and touhou stage themes...

now, if you somehow find and listen to my earliest works, you will hear my basis, my roots. me experimenting with melody, to see what works and whats boring af. me finding and clutching onto that standard ZUN chord progression throughout three "albums." me discovering audacity and doing a very shoddy job (even worse than heating energy) at voice mixing. how i have evolved over the past 5 or 6 years is insane. yet i have, for some reason, never let go of that core... miohcore. lol thats so cornyyy stopppp

if you would like to learn of my main influences other than what is mentioned here already, hmu in my dms iykwim. i gonna stop yappin frfr its not good 4 my health, like im losing precious Slumber Seconds by typing this rn 😒

Considering the variety of my work that I have uploaded onto this site and others (YT and BC), I would say that my style is highly inconsistent, although my slower songs do usually have the commonality of a non-concordant melody, while my longer songs are typically more orchestral in nature (Colonial march No.1 in C Major being an obvious example).

hmm id say my tracks are pop songs with lots of influence from prog, keygen stuff, punk, classical, chamber pop... with heavy focus on the melody, and accompanying chord lines. so much so i kinda dont think too much about phrasing the rhythm of said melody, although id say i care a lot about rhythm when it comes to the rhythm section. id like to try more contrapuntal stuff, but alas... although im a bassist i tend not to put bass in the forefront. i love using bells and strings and other classical flavored instrumentation in my work to make it sound all grand.. and i tend to modulate a lot between major and minor for the Drama TM. i usually make sure my drum parts are fairly realistic, although im no drummer so sometimes my tracks are performed by a fellow with three arms. i also like playing with dynamics when the track calls for it. huge fan of blowing people's ears off with a volume swell, assuming its not too hard to implement, as i feel volume swells should be felt viscerally. like, if there's a bit thats meant to be loud and intense and sinister, then the volume jumping to an almost startling degree is absolutely called for imo.

my earlier stuff (as in like 2014-2017, where i got my starts) tended to lean chiptune EDM, since that's all i really listened to at the time lol. i tended to repeat a lot of my chord progressions back then (i-III-v-IV was my favorite), so nowadays i want to make sure and try to vary them as much as i can from track to track. same goes for rhythm, as getting exposed to more music that wasnt just boots and cats and boots and cats (my attempt at a techno beat) gave me more ideas for how to phrase rhythm stuff. in general actually getting into more music was game-changing for my writing

EDIT: omg something i forgot! - i love detuning my songs. idk why but ever since i was a kid ive detuned songs just to hear them in other keys as well as fall between keys. yes, i like nightcore lol. pretty much most of my tracks never quite fall into standard 440hz tuning. there's something spicy and sometimes otherworldly about hearing something you cant quite fit neatly into the tuning youre used to hearing all the time... ive considered getting into microtonal stuff tbh. i think itd be up my alley, i just havent experimented with it yet cuz it sounds hard!

The way I've learnt to write music is by looking at things that people did in their music and trying to copy what they did. Because of that, my style is a mix of elements of every piece of music I've ever liked, put into a blender, mixed in with whatever other crap I think sounds good.

I call it doopdeecore :)
