4HB Idea - Game Dev Music Portfolio Building
BotB Academy Bulletins

Now that Summer Chip is coming to a close soon and Winter Chip quite a while away, I thought it would be a good time to have some kind of 4HB to fill the void.
-What would people think of having 4HB compos to help develop individual music portfolios that a developer would be interested in hearing?
-I'm also interested in what would be good examples of typical developer asks and what is something that we should have in a portfolio but is not covered well by OHBs.
-This event is great for people that need a portfolio but are too lazy or not motivated enough to do it on their own (like that nocturne guy).
-Plus, things are always more fun with friendos.
(The following examples may be bad, will likely be open to suggestions if people like this idea. Not sure if we should do focused prompts or more open prompts with a particular direction implied.)

Example 1 -
Format: Wildchip (retro/bit music, modern instruments okay in moderation)
Game Type: Action Platformer
Mood: Lighthearted, fun
Requirements: Loops, sfx on 2nd loop
Description: Tomato Knight game, first level Viney Meadows. Watch out for stingy bee knights.

Example 2 -
Format: Allgear
Game Type: JRPG
Mood: Anxious, loving
Requirements: Loops
Description: Game is called Forgotten Fantasy made on RPG maker, you are writing character music for Darla, the protagonist's 10 year old daughter who is always worried about their parent coming home safely from the war.

Time wise, I was thinking similar to Ultimate Hum on Saturday 11 AM to 3 PM PDT.

dont forget that s3xmodit is also a great format for this, as game engines like unity (perhaps also others as well) supports it

@tennisers i think i used it around 3 or 2 years ago, i can't remember - i think songs are played just like mp3 ones - you can always find some online reference about their s3xmodit support, like https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/TrackerModules.html , https://support.unity.com/hc/en-us/articles/206484803-What-are-the-supported-Audio-formats-in-Unity- , etc.

Woo, getting a lot of interest in this. Thinking of starting this Aug 13! If anyone has prompt ideas, feel free to post it. I realize I cannot host Wildchip 4HB, so likely it will be Allgears with the restrictions put in the prompt.

The two types of prompts I would like to focus on is:
1. What is typically asked for a commission or game dev project?
2. What is something that would be good to have on a portfolio that is poorly covered by majors and/or OHBs?

Of course the most important thing is that it's a fun and inspiring prompt. Also trying to figure out how to open the prompt up so that it can accommodate both modern and chiptune styles. Most likely am going to have rounds that are chip only and others that are either/or.

It has started, it got renamed to the "Game Music Adventure" series to avoid confusion of it being a game dev event.
I will try to host it on Saturdays 11:00 AM PDT.

I'm trying to think of alternate times like 17:00 PDT. The advantage with 11:00 AM PDT is good for capturing EU and US members, but a 17:00 PDT time would be better for Asia + US. I wonder what kind of time would be best for most people or for people that would like to join.
