Okay guys, I had this idea I'm tempted to host this Tuesday. It's a three-rounder compo that'll last around 3 hours (not counting the 3 voting phases).

The outline of this project is this:

FIRST ROUND: SAMPLE OHC
People submit one sample (MP3 or WAV, preferably WAV. NO DRUMS ALLOWED). The samples obtained will be the ones used for the Round 2.

SECOND ROUND: S3XMODIT OHC
Using only the samples of Round 1 (and a drumkit provided by the host, a.k.a. me) a S3XMODIT OHC will take place. The samples that take the first 3 places on the previous round will be MANDATORY to use.

THIRD ROUND: REMIX OHC
For this one, I'll need all the contestants of the previous round logged in on the Chat. Every one of them will receive a PM telling them what song they must grab from the previous round, so that they REMIX IT by any means they want. The contestants CANNOT use any other song other than the one disclosed in the PM.

Anyone is free to participate in the 1st round regardless of their possibilities/willingness of taking on the other 2 rounds. Only the 2nd and 3rd round are actually linked - if you don't do the 2nd, then you won't get a PM for the 3rd.

That would be 9-11am wednesday for me. Because I'll basically be on holiday, I'll be keen. Now I have to remember to go to this exam...

maybe should make the first round WAV only, to make it easier to import the samples into a tracker?

I'm gonna say "preferably WAV", but I don't want to exclude people with bad upload rates. Besides, if the samples are small enough and if everything goes right then I can convert them myself and put the final Round 2 pack up in the Round 2 OHC to save the contestants some time. But only if the total samples are under the limit...

it might be easier to judge and more formal if part 3 was a remix of the winner of part 2 for all entrants

Yeah, but it would be much less challenging and much less mysterious. And how would it be "easier to judge"?

Cool initiative, ElHuesudoII (organization) Chipchampion is right afaik about an equal scale for people to judge and measure a song among songs, although we could argue this back and forth endlessly.

the hardest part is timing due to us being around the silly globe and the silly time zones. Good work! hope to see seeing it action soon.
