a side thing! for anyone involved in any part of this compo: i have been debating whether to include the MPTM format as part of the compo next year. for the unaware, it's basically an openmpt-exclusive extension of the IT format with most of the same effects and features, but a few extras thrown in here and there.

i don't think it would really be an issue especially now that MPTM as a format is becoming a bit more mainstream, but i want your opinions!
http://www.strawpoll.me/13678430

(note: this WOULD NOT allow the use of the directx plugins)

whatever is in the lead by the deadline on tuesday will be the choice i go with next year

I don't think we should include mptm in the format because my computer runs linux and openmpt doesn't run on linux

but openmpt should run fine in wine? and also by that logic it should be removed from botb as well???? ( and it's not like you would have to use mptm if it were included lol)

you'd have to use openmpt for playback and voting, though. afaik openmpt is well-supported by wine (or vice-versa) so practically speaking that is not much of an issue.

it'd just suck for people who use anything other than openmpt to write modules (since they're no longer on a level playing field) or play back modules (since they'd have to install new software for it). it's the sort of thing that could tip the scales for people like me who are borderline on voting/not voting. everyone and sincx's brother uses openmpt though so maybe that's a small sacrifice to make.

the botb analogy is lame which is why i hætid your comment sorry

well the playing field is already unbalanced by allowing .mod and .it in the same compo, or even .xm and .it, so i don't think it would make much difference in that regard.

for voting, if some are deadset against openmpt then i don't mind compiling mp3s for that small subset of people if this were to go through.

due to the builtin effects mptm is closer to allgear or xrns than to xm/it IMO, which makes it more unfair than .xm vs .it. but raising the sound design/production ceiling is also very tempting (and i'm pretty sick of setting up samples/insts for "xaimus reverb")

Openmpt is explicitly supported on linux with Wine, the only thing you don't get is the directx effects and some vsts might not work

Also there is a libopenmpt plugin for xmplay that allows you to play mptms in it, but yeah i agree mptm is a little too exclusive, and a little too powerful unless you basically restrict it to "IT but with hipass, S9F, \xx, and oxx

I don't know if my words are worth anything, since I sadly had no time to commit myself into this compo, but I think adding mptm would ruin the spirit of the whole thing, as everyone would use that format and it would turn out as a mptm compo. And this would penalize the few xm users!

I voted no because I would have no proper way of playing them back (and I am not interested in getting Windows emulation for this purpose). Thus, I cite a platform incompatibility for this reason.

quick reminder that if you are a non-finalist making a troll song (which is perfectly allowed) to please make it clear that your song is a troll song!! (this has not happened yet. but just to be certain)

also if ur going to submit more than one song for one reason or another, PLEASE USE DIFFERENT NAMES otherwise it creates an issue with voting. from now on i will remove any older entries under the same name and keep only the most recent one

Minerscale, even if you don't want to install Wine, MPTMs can be played natively on Linux, since there are OpenMPT123 binaries
available for several distributions. It's a pretty convenient CLI player, just grab it and you're ready to go voting, even if you're not planning to enter the compo with MPTM song yourself. There's also a plugin for Audacious
, just not in precompiled form.

Ok so what happened is i was fucking about trying to clean up some folders, mistyped an rm command and ended up nuking my s3xmodit folder by accident last night, and my last backup was before r5 started

I wasn't very happy with my entry so I'd already kinda prepared to drop out and i was really not expecting the extension to happen....... I'm super sorry

Fill in the form as instructed. This will determine the winner! Good luck to all!

http://media.smwcentral.net/Sinc-X/svx/r5mp3.zip mp3s for anyone that needs them :) rendered with requested interpolation if applicable, otherwise with cubic. manis5 has bonus subsongs that are not included in the mp3 render, so you'll still have to use the module if you want those

also to note:

This is a very serious entry song about something else I wasn't proud with leaving out in the darkness.
