Your best bet without actually contributing any audio work to the site is basically what Baron Knoxburry said. When you reach level 7, you can also contribute to the lyceum which is BotB's wiki-esque place to share useful notes about various things related to music and tools. (I also have a bunch of Japanese articles if you don't mind fixing the translations for those, and maybe you can also contribute with the Japanese localization of some of the major lyceum articles)
That being said...unless you really go all out with contributing to the lyceum upon reaching level 7, you're really not going to get as many points by simply logging in, voting, or tagging. The majority of your points is going to stem from posting your music, mostly in major battles if making music in an hour is not your thing. For the most part, as long as the following categories are available in a given major battle, you should be fine:
- Allgear (accepts any audio entry, even chiptune)(should be common in Spring Tracks)
- Wildchip (accepts any chiptune or chiptune-sounding entry)(should be common in Winter Chip and Summer Chip)
- NSF (accepts any Famicom entry as long as no expansion chips are used)(should be common in Winter Chip and Summer Chip)
- NSF Plus (accepts any Famicom entry)(relatively uncommon in Winter Chip and Summer Chip)
- NSF Classic (accepts any Famicom entry as long as neither expansion chips nor the DPCM channel is used)(relatively rare in Winter Chip and Summer Chip)
And if you by any chance use a tracker to create your music, depending on which one you use, you can also submit to these, all in which should be common in Spring Tracks:
- 0CC-FamiTracker
- FamiTracker
- Deflemask
- NTRQ
