thanks a lot for your constructive criticism and feedback, ordinate.
im glad that you were given comment writing privileges so that i can read dogshit like this.
i think you have a wrong understanding about monthlies and major battle hosting, so let me update you on this.
i dont have major battle hosting privileges, and noone else except for puke7 does.
the way monthlies are handled are like this:
first, we have a Future Battles battle, where everyone can submit any idea they have.
then, botbrs vote on the submissions and rank them in categories. one of them is "want", which indicates how much someone wants to see the battle.
for example: this battle idea ranked 12th out of 73 submissions.
after Future Battles is over, the botb elderz (that includes admins but a few other people as well, including me) will compile a list out of the entries, sorted by "want".
any of the botb elderz can then pick battle ideas they are interested in hosting. usually, only the upper half of the list is taken into serious consideration here.
when that is done, i sit down and create a battle schedule for the year, which is then posted into the elderz-chat and checked by everyone else in there. we also have ongoing updates through the year, because some battles extend or some get moved to another month.
last step is to tell puke7 to set up the battle, which also comes with yet another check.
you see, we have several instances of checking hosted battles before they go live. first, its up to the community which ideas are even posted. then a community decision, which ideas shld get prioritized, then an admin and elderz decision, which battles end up in the schedule, and a puke7 decision to actually approve and set up the battle.
you make it sound like i just sat down on an evening and felt like creating this without thinking further about it.
next, it seems like you think i will farm a lot of points with this. hostist points for major battles work the same as xhb hosting points: by amount of submitted entries.
in terms of hosting points, this one is equivalent to a 6 entry OHB. it would be a lot more effective to host a few allgear ohbs and i would have hundreds more points than what i earn from this one.
reward points for scoring high are handed out depending on the total entry count as well in major battles, so a 6 entry major will give barely any points, even if you score high, compared to something like summer or winter chip. again, easier to host OHBs if i want to farm points.
and at last, i am wondering why you have a problem with specifically this battle, because you could have also said the same about childs days hosted by roz (8 entries) and game night hosted by prestune (4 entries).
as warlord already pointed out, you can simply ignore this battle if you dont like the theme/rules. you dont even have to be salty about it blocking something you wld enjoy, because this battle didnt replace another. if we wouldnt have hosted this battle, there would have been none instead.
and even though there are only 6 entries submitted by 5 botbrs, at least those 5 botbrs had fun with what they did, so that is a win in my book.
yes, we were debating if this battle shld take place at this specific time. we already moved it a little into the future, to make sure the overlap between several voting and entry periods is smaller.
in the end, we ended up with multiple people saying it will be okay to get this one going.
with the high amount of Future Battle requests and a stacked schedule like this, not every battle has to be for everyone and/or a big success.
maybe we could have gotten a handful more entries at a different time, or maybe not.
after all, this idea ranked 12th out of 73 in "want", people clearly voted it high and showed interest in it. if we would only host battles where we know beforehand if they perform well or not, we would probably only do winter, spring, summer and advent.
