coda suggested that BotB's twitter messages should include @botbrs taggy things so the message appears in their feeds. I'm all for this, sounds good. It requires a new bit of info (your twitter name) to be added in the profile editor. Now, if I'm gonna bother to do this, should I be adding spots for other crappy social sites like soundcloud, facebook, myspace, friendster, adultfriendfinder, etc...?

i guess if a botbr wants to link to soundcloud or whatever they can manually link it in their profile or use as homepage... so maybe only give spots for automated thingz

Anybody can use their favourite social account page as their homepage or link them in their profile, including twitter.

I dunno, the twitter thing has the purpose of @battleofthebits being able to @ people's names and stuff. I guess that's good for making BotB a little more visible to the outside world. Other stuff I don't forsee any immediate use for.

Some sites let people attach a list of links to their profile. I dunno, I think being able to link sites in your profile page text is fine for this though.

The twitter username thing is functional; it has purpose beyond advertising your own personal social media page. So thumbs up for that. The rest (facebook, soundcloud, whatever) can be left as bio material if people really want to link to that.

I think I have this all tied in now. You set your @username on the settings screen. It's only used for level ups and the starts and stops of OHBs (normal battles lack this feature :[ ). Let's give it a whurl and lemme know if it needs tweaks. It might be a while before we really know . . .

Also I wasn't sure whether I should include the @ or not, but the fact that there was one in the field's description made me conclude that it wasn't necessary.

If the first character is @ then BotB removes it. I just tested sending an admin announcement and it worked. Problem with this is that only people subscribing to @battleofthebits will see it. For the BotBr it will be in your 'mentions' and you can retweet the message on your own timeline; Then it's public to your own followers.

So... would setting up a thingamahjig that posts to BotBr's twits directly be a next logical step? As it is now, this really doesn't do much to share the light of BotB with more interwebs.

As long as those messages containing twitter nicks don't happen at funny times of day or night (my expectation is shortly after compos end) it's okay. (Getting an @ on twitter can blow up a person's phone)
