It would be awesome if the Commander X16 computer is used as a BotB format. For those who don't know, Commander X16 is a dream computer, designed to evoke the same fondness and nostalgia for 8-Bit computers, more specifically Commodore 64, while retaining closeness to the hardware from a programming perspective. It comes with 2 sound chips: the good old YM2151 (a.k.a. OPM) and VERA, which consisted of 16 PSG channels, 4 waveforms (pulse, triangle, saw and noise) and a PCM channel, totalizing 25 channels

considering it has its own dedicated format and everything, sounds good to me. also furnace support lol

is it a dream computer in the same way as tic80 - like it can be programmed for, to make games and demos and such?

if it is, and that programming environment is free and multiplatform, it could be a cool Codist format!

but if it were just the music, i personally don't think there is much intrigue in formats dedicated to fantasy chips or fantasy chip combos - the sharp x68k makes sense because that was a real old machine, but this wouldn't because it's just made up

i'm honestly really surprised it's not been added as a format yet. i know loads of people here who would happily participate in X16 battles, myself included!

Counter point, except for VERA, the other soundchips supported on the X16 (OPM and OPL3) overlap with other formats (YM2151, X68K, OPL3)

VERA format would be fire though, I had a lot of fun with that chip when I tried it

@gotoandplay I find those examples more as cautionary tales than as indicators of a format's merit
