In the year I've been on botb, I've loved competing in both majors and 0hbs. I've had a blast with collabs, and gotten to host a couple batols of my own. I've still only scratched the surface of what this site has to offer (only one badge to my name :sob: )

I've been thinking recently, what would really elevate the site for me would be 1v1s. You might be confused how that'd work on BOTB, but just hear me out okay?

So... There'll be a button on someone's profile to challenge them to a 1v1 which will send a message to them in alerts or their page comments or whatever. If they accept, BOTB will take 750 boons from both participants. Then it'll show up as a duel on the main page whenever it's scheduled. Submissions will be anonymous just like an xhb, and voting will be done by the general botb populace. Whoever wins the duel gets all the boons back.

Potential problems:
- pain to code. Puke7 will probably have to copy then modify the xhb scripting, then add the "challenge to a duel" button.
- cluttered main page. If we have majors, Xhbs, and duels in the same place, the main page could get very cluttered
- people may not want to vote on duels. I can't say for sure, because I'm not a social scientist

All that aside, I would really love to see some 1v1s. If it isn't added to BOTB, I'd be happy to 1v1 anyone in SNES or Gameboy off-site. In conclusion, 1v1 me bro.

This has been on puke's "to-do" list for years at this point from what I can tell. IIRC all of the reasons you mentioned were given as to why it hasn't happened yet.

IMO i could see 1v1s existing as a sort of "championship title" kind of like in boxing, where there's maybe a big tournament of 1v1s instead of them just happening any time. And instead of having a permanent trophy on your profile, you get a "title belt" that you keep until the next 1v1 tournament

I approached puke about pit fights, duels and big tournaments last year and asked if he wld be up to do them as a commission but he told me he isn't rly interested in doing 1v1 on botb anymore
so unless that opinion changes, you shld look for other pages instead to do these, like gbm, as roz suggested

if they do add this in, i would rather it not be a requirement for people to be able to challenge folks to duels, instead, it should be toggleable per-user, as I wouldn't want people challenging me all the time. like, an "accepting duel requests?" option in account settings.

also, there should probably be a level requirement for this too.

@retrokid104 This is definitely a good idea. I didn't think about how annoying the notifs might be.

@PlugNPlay tournament majors would also be really cool. Of course the UI would be a nightmare and seeding for pools would be a challenge. Loser's bracket probably wouldn't be a thing to keep down the complexity.

@Kleeder Didn't know this was a thing people asked for. I'll definitely check out GBM. I might also host my own 1v1s. Call it "chip-off" or something.

I remember Keffie hosting a pit fight some years ago. In fact, it was thanks to that tournament that I joined BotB.

ooh, we could form factions and have fights and stuff... whoever scores higher gets bragging rights in a big scoreboard!
