essentially what it says on the tin. there have been efforts to localize the lyceum from both a-zu-ra and kizolf, but what i'm proposing here would be site wide. there are a ton of botbrs here who already either speak multiple languages and/or have a mother tongue that isn't engish, so i feel like something to this effect would help a lot in encouraging global participation. this would take a HUGE amount of work to properly implement but i feel like there would be at least a few who would volunteer for that; i know i'm itching to use this summer learning japanese and last summer learning spanish to help in this effort if it happens

less work in the actual translating and more work in adapting everything to use translation strings haha

not a good idea imo
1) site-specific terminology is harder to communicate in other languages
2) new features and strings wld always need translations before rollout
3) "same ground of knowledge" as in: if i explain to someone how to use the website ("click submit to submit") it becomes harder if the submit button says something else for them lol
4) page layout is designed to work with english. some buttons and boxes might be too big or smol for certain strings in other languages
5) having the community divided into different sub-communities based around languages instead of keeping it all one big community feels weird to me too

actually some good points made above! especially 1 since i feel like the nuances of such probably wouldn't translate well into another language without an unbelievable amount of linguistic and site knowledge and might lead into us having to use normalized language which is lame af. i wanted to put the idea out there mainly because of those lyceum translation efforts and wondered how possible it would be to make that sitewide, though i'm mainly interested to see other's opinions on this as i'm just one person. an idea is better spent discussed than locked in a vault with the key swallowed after all

Agree with kleeder when it comes to the main site but I think a proper translation feature for the lyceum would be good to have, both so people not fluent in english can learn how to navigate and use the site despite the english interface and because the lyceum has a lot of useful chiptune information in general, not only for BotBrs.

The current way it's set up, not only makes the page link format non-standardized (for example japanese has 【日本語】 before the page name and kana-ifies some things, and portuguese just adds [PT] at the end) but can make it difficult for people to reach the translated pages unless the hyperlinks are actively mantained.

A /ja/, /pt/, etc that could be added to the end of the page link to show the translation, or create a new page in case it doesn't exist, like the current lyceum does, would be best.

Also the format pages in japanese are not following the format page layout

i think this is the better option in the end too since translating the entire site (like i said at the top) would take a MAMMOTH effort to do. having the lyceum translated not only means the chiptune knowledge would be translated, but a bit of the pixel art and text art knowledge as well. that and it would be a ton more convenient with a language switcher in the lyceum itself instead of having to awkwardly shove in links to the article in another language at the top
