There is this feature in Audacity called Raw data import, it lets you import almost any file on your computer and read its data as if it was an audio file.

For instance you can import pictures, text files or even computer programs and create samples with it, it's very fun and it can produce some very cool sounds!

So I was wondering, do we want to allow raw data imports in remix battles as long as it only uses the sample files of the bitpack?

Personally, I would be in favor of it but I can also see why someone would want to forbid this, as it's a very twisted way to consider samples

sounds cool on paper, most of the time it just results in various flavors of noise. would be a fun gimmick once and thats really about it

I think if a host wants to allow this they could just raw data import themselves and save it as wav for the bitpack
edit: I have actually included a raw data import file in one of my bitpacks, haha. don't remember which one

Conversely, I would say that if a host doesn't want this, it shouldn't be the default that it's allowed.

I mean you can already VST a sample to hell and back in remix, so I don't think this method would really be any different than that right?

I do kinda agree that if you really want to feature that method, hosting a remix using samples created using that method - or specifying it in the bitpack - seems appropriate. I've played around with it a little before, it can definitely be fun to see what pops up when you run random shit as sound data!

could be a fun theme for a sample OHB, followed by a remix OHB using the best samples, I forget if there's a proper term for that

cade did a couple raw data remix bitpacks a few months ago which were pretty fun to play around with but i'd personally rather just see it in that occasional form than as a valid form of sample/bitpack manipulation. it's weirder than shortlooping imo and shortlooping already feels cheesy unless the bitpack is insane
