since roz is hosting their February Fever, i feel as if this is much better a time than any to break the nearly 3yo record for xhbs hosted. this will have to take the effort of multiple botbrs to come to fruition. a plentitude of battling, boon begging, and submitting in order for a record to come crashing down. it's not gonna be easy.

a few people have said that it would be difficult to do this. partially because of the absence of an active ominous pigeon master (of whom i am in negotiations with) who broke that record in the first place. mainly because of the presence of winter chip. however, if this community has anything going for it, its resillience. i know all of you can pull it off - and it will! this february is a golden opportunity to go for this record, considering the circumstances - the influx of n00bs, the comeback of vets, the surge of xhb series - if it won't happen this month, it'll certainly happen the next month.

this was in the era before long term battle scheduling, before 2hbs and 4hbs

someone will have to channel that unsustainable manic energy 24/7 for 28 days

i say ten ten is right. opm is still a lovable bundle of energy, but there's nothing left to prove.

i do agree that the manic energy opm embodied back then would be a make-or-break deal for another run at this record; i was there too, he hosted 79 battles during the month of may and it was enough to smash that record.

HOWEVER: if coming back to botb has given me anything, it's the drive to make as much as i can in 2023 - no holds barred, no strings attached, no breaks allowed, you get the gist.

it's why i said i'd host 2 to 3 battles a day at minimum; if i have to embody pidge's pure insanity to break this record, i will.

If 4 BotBrs each host 1-3 battles a day, it's totally doable

you need an actual strategy, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak

a couple tips for success

1 - ohbs only, no brainer, 6.5 battles doesnt sound too bad until you realize it actually takes like 9 hours to do that, the voting always slows you down more than you think

2 - use the battle schedule function to ensure nobody's stepping on other battles, this is the one big advantage you have now vs then

3 - you need to start thinking of bitpacks asap

4 - you probably need to have a heavy lean toward inclusive formats, i know what the poll said but the mix needs to have mostly allgear/wildchip/visuall, you WILL boonloss into oblivion, you have been warned

5 - maybe share the load on the manic energy stuff, have multiple people doing it in shifts, or different days. it really is too much for one person and as fun as 2020 was i was seriously concerned for opm's health at times

i will take these pointers to mind, and i suggest everyone else does so too - i won't let this be some sort of suicide mission

@Vav (4) dont forget that lots of botbrs here are aiming their 7th badge, so, some battle format diversity will help them a lot! :) (so, from my part, i'll refuse hosting allgear/visuall/wildchip battles in the whole february, and challenge everyone doing the same! ;) )

as of the start of week 2, 86 battles have been completed - that means only 97 more are necessary to beat the record, just about 4.5 a day for the rest of the month. easy.

I'm thinking about hosting a weekly AMIGA music compo each week, at a specific date. This week I started this Friday, but I was thinking about doing that every Saturday at 22.00 CET if everyone agrees.

We broke 100 today!

as of writing this, we will be at 111 battles. that's 11 a day for 10 days straight. you can see everyone above saying that this would not happen, that this would be a difficult time to be doing this. we have destroyed the balance. time is our plaything and we laugh in the face of GOD.

vav, you gave me the idea to strategize this much more so than i would've. the server was pretty much your idea by proxy, and i don't know how to repay you for basically making this run way more coordinated. soz about your fakebit becoming a bit less special (tho still very special with context)

pidge. sweet, compassionate, considerate, all around awesome pidge. you were literally the seed of this whole break the record run, and i am glad to have met you, let alone get this month to heights never seen before. may 2020 was a little after my time (my first comeback was on the 30th) but i can already tell this outpaces that by miles. you've been my best pal for nearly 3 years, well wishes to thou o baron of birds. trees will take over soon

well, the record was broken, but it still didn't feel as crazy as the may2020 event to me. might just be that i wasn't around for a lot of battles, but here are a few reasons why i think that:
1) most battles happened in the first week, after that it went back to basically normal hosting.
2) where was the excited counting towards the new record?? in march 2017 as well as may2020 we gave each.battle it's count as a title and it was a shared joy to keep it growing, until we came closer to the record. this time it was just "battle Battle Battle, oh btw tie breaker, okay battle Battle", it took a lot of magic from it
3) this is basically 1+2 combined. it didn't feel like an actual event month. it felt like an event week maybe and the rest was just "ehh, " which was definitely underwhelming.

congratz on the new record of course but this can be done better imo

sorry kleeder but you're off your nut. the energy this month has been ridiculous and if you're not feeling it i think that's probably an issue on your end.

Speaking on behalf of the Invisible League of Playas, we also detected a significant uptake in energy levels. That said, kleeder does suggest something interesting with that countdown idea.

I'm not saying the energy wasn't there, i said it didn't feel like an event month, compared to may2020.
i hosted lots of battles this month as well and put energy into everything but i still didn't feel the spirit of "holy shit so many battles" in the second half of the month. it started very crazy and went back down quickly after that, that's what I mean.

maybe the scheduling aspect took some magic out of that for me. nothing beats the moment when you did 4 battles in a row and someone hosts a 5th one out of nowhere and you're Like whaaaaaat happens here??
with scheduling it's way less surprising i guess , tho it was very amazing to see the big wall of like 10+ scheduled battles in the first week nonstop

Fair points, but we should celebrate this community achievement rather than downplay it.

For me personally, crazy month! Felt lots of energy (although yes, battles did naturally slow down through the month). As for the scheduling? A solid strategy that I think helped get more people to host battles that may not normally do so.

Out of our 225 battles, I thought it would be interesting to gather some stats about battles that were a boonloss or threat of boonloss (exactly 3 entries). For battles in this category, we had:
49 battles with 3 entries
25 boonlosses (18,750 totals boons lost) RIP our sweet boons, imagine the palettes we could'a made with those babies

46 Botbrs who participated in these particular battles

And special mention for the Boonsave Protectorate (those who joined more than 10 of these smaller battles helping to protect our boooons):

i already gave my thanks to everyone who hosted but there are still a few things to say

this was a wild ride, huh? i was certainly not expecting anything close to what we accomplished this month alone. 8 battles a day, on average. maybe it's the 2020 botbr still within me, but when 8 battles happen on one day, that's an event. i'm still grateful for everyone's help on this, and i feel like the community of botb has become a might bit closer because of this run. there were some hiccups for sure, and some of those came from me, but even with those rough patches in mind, i still say this month turned out fantastically.

i thank you all for participating in this. sorry if this month burned you out any, this month hasn't been the best for casual battling. i still don't know what else to say except for thank you, thank you, thank you a million times over, so i'll stop for now. see you on the flipside botb o/
