Our first winter chip compo will be hosting a cross-platform battle of .NSF (nintendo entertainment system / famicon), .SID (commodore 64), 8k & 48k .MOD files. You can enter a track for each of the four file types. All tracks will be rendered to .mp3 for BotB users to vote on. More details when we get closer to it starting...
If you want general info on what chipmusic is try reading <a href="http://redofromstart.com/faq.php">trez & brioche's faq</a> or <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chip_music">Wiki's chiptune entry</a>. There is a significant worldwide scene that will have an effect on BotB's <a href="http://battleofthebits.com/barracks.php?act=worldtrackism">World Trackismer</a>.

I still haven't programmed the thing that awards remix compo winners their bonus points. And, of course, I am open to any suggestions about the interface.... One thing that is for sure -- We'll be looking for a new host in the spring as this server tends to be lazy at times for no good reason.

I don't think midines will make you an .nsf file but I could be wrong. I use software called <a href="http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Denei/9628/">MCK/MLL</a> and here is <a href="http://www.nullsleep.com/treasure/mck_guide/">a tutorial</a>. But if you'd rather have a tracker there is one <a href="http://www.2a03.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=365">in the works buried in this forum</a>.
I plan on putting together links and info when the thing actually starts.

no -- buzz won't help...
try <a href="http://www.madtracker.org/download.php">madtracker</a> in fastTracker mode -- that'll get you into the 8k & 48k .MOD ballpark...

Ok, to use a sid tracker such as blipp blopper do I need a c64 emulator? I honestly don't know what to use to run one of these things.

i use goat tracker -- it's PC based and generates a .sid for you -- and get sidplay to listen to them

Thankyou, once I figure out how to use this thing it seems like it will be a much better approach.

I definitely agree, cause I've been using goat tracker and it is fun but I'm stuck and I'd like help. Just for general use not just for the competition thing.

(edit: who knew readme files were actually useful. I'm an ass jack.)

You know -- there was a while where I had no idea what LOL or ROTFLOL meant. But the first time I saw RTFM I knew it meant Read Teh Fucking Manual. True nerd software is more worried about function over friendliness any day.

nope, midines does not make nsf files.

you were right, either use NT2, MCK, or famitracker to make nsfs.
