I reached level six when the Summer Chip Battle ended. What happened!?

I dunno! Same thing happened to me. I was level 10, but now:

"LEVEL UP :: valzi reaches Level 9 Chipist with 1195pnts

valzi, you earned -156 Mixist points."

this is because the results for summer chip were tallied with incorrect/incomplete data, and points were assigned incorrectly. then they were taken back when the correct results were tallied.

sorry, didn't want to blow up the spot too much - but probably there should be a record of my observations. i mentioned this to puke7 in #botb - basically the compo did the following:

- awarded X incorrect chipist points on the first "end compo" without a vote tally (all entries had score = 0 and ended up in a random ranking)
- (possibly) awarded X chipist points AGAIN, but oddly without adding this to the total points (try checksumming your points on your profile page and you'll see what i mean)
- subtracted X ***mixist*** points when the compo was properly tallied (big problem!) :(

aside - a big part of my day job is debugging data errors in accounting software, so i'm kind of good at noticing these things ;)

i think your module entries for summer chips were giving mixist points and that changed over at the end, so those mixist points got subtracted but added to you chipist total

chip champion: no, that's not what was happening. i had many more than my current amount of mixist points at the start of SC.

edit: Blot's profile is a good example... he has only one entry, but look at the mixist points!

What happened ==

• votes were not tallied
• bonus points given according to entry submission order at battle's end
• ran a function to undo the bonus points (this function apparently only removed mixist points instead of point types associated with respective entries)
• tallied the votes
• appropriate bonuses given

I'm gonna try to go over the point log and see if I can reverse the damage, but I also have company from out of state here. In fact, since I moved over three weeks ago I haven't been able to completely settle in yet. Life is very much in my way of being the pukes for BotB right now; kickball season is over finally, there's a wedding coming up, gigs and work. Toodles!! :P

the sum for Architekulort is 235 pnts off, so this supports my hypothesis (X = 235).

X = 195 for me btw :P

as I already said in the IRC, based on my vague memories of what points I had before Summer Chip, with this latest update the points would be just about evened to a level before the Summer Chip (so no points from that). anyone else remember what points you have before summer chip compared to situation now? Of course now there's also the issue of at least me having 2xcategories of "chipist" and "mixist" points in my profile. seems to be same for wiklund and saskrotch also. but this is already brought to B-mans attention. dunno if/when he will have time/interest to look into these though.

Warlord, I don't think points from after SCI were subtracted. For example, I got a Grafxicist point a few days ago (which I have very few of), and it's still there. Also, if puke had corrected to pre-SCI point levels, we all probably would have lost some Playa points when the correction happened, but we didn't.

I am pretty sure the only bugs now are:
1) the duplicated categories issue.
2) the "Total" is short by X (as defined in my post above, #17240 :: 2011.09.22 6:58am). X is now easily calculated as the number of "bizarro" Mixist points you have, or (negative Chipist points you have / 2). X(Warlord) = 1563. :)

It is worth noting that older botbrs have buggy totals to begin with, e.g. Warlord's total is not actually off by 1563, due to (presumed) prior point skew. Mine is off by X+3 *shrug*. But Blot's total demonstrates my conjecture nicely.

Edit: I may have misunderstood you, Warlord - maybe you are saying that the points correctly awarded at the closing of SCI were subtracted (not just the points from the bogus tally). I don't really know, because my stellar SCI entry didn't get any bonus points ;), but I'd suggest that it's more likely that correct SCI points were just never awarded in the first place. I guess puke would have to check the point logs to be certain.

I think this could be fairly easily calculated from e.g. mootbooxle's user details, as he's a fairly new user (didn't have that much points before SC) and he won the compo so should have probably received some X amount of bonus points for that. http://battleofthebits.com/barracks/Profile/mootbooxle/

mootbooxle would indeed be a great baseline for this, it is worth to note though that if you take away his OHCist,Hostist,Playa and Critisist points, he end up at a total of -146. yes minus 146. that means that people now actually lost more points than they gained.

You can clearly see that the negative distribution is very spread out.
And some people (including me) seem to be lucky now that they was
skipped completely from the points distribution process =D

What the HELL is going on you guys? I just keep losing, and losing, and losing? I realise that I'm a n00b, and don't deserve to have high numbers, but surely winning a compo means SOMETHING? Thank you Strobe, Warlord, et al for trying to get to the bottom of this. I'm really frustrated that no matter what I do, I keep going DOWN in rank, rather than up, where I feel that I belong, because I'm working HARD to get there. I'm trying with the greatest effort I can muster in these compos. Puke7 help please!

This is being dealt with at the moment, stay tuned!

So the events that will happen now is that the negative points will merge with their actual value. That is negative Chipisist will be merged with the positive Chipisist points, this we think will land on Points closely to before the Summerchip Compo even took place.
After this, the points tally from Summerchip will rerun (this time correctly), This is highly likely to fix the current points problem that exists right now, so have some patience for awhile!

I am sorry if I've been a pest about it in any way...I really tried not to be. Yes I do care about my points! I agree Strobe, the points/rank system is a huge chunk of what makes competing on BotB fun. Otherwise, it's just about bragging rights, and that's not the reason I make music! I don't wanna win compos so I can lord it over others...I just wanna do my best to win because I get better at my craft every single time (even this recent Amen Sin...I didn't get to finish my entry, but I learned a TON of stuff as a reslut of working on it). Having some kind of points or something to look forward to adds to the excitement and suspense. I planned my whole evening around the summachip sluts!

puke7, I don't know if you've finished fixing things up yet (as I've been out-of-touch with BotB as of late), but I went from almost becoming a level 16 OHCist to a beginner level 14 OHCist. I cannot recall being given negative points or any "level 'up'" announcement. At least I'm the 3rd biggest OHCist again, that 2nd place was getting too stressful, heheheh.

Soiled Bargains:
There was huge bug in the total points for most users.
For example, my total points was 1500 more than what it should have been, so that's probably why you went down in level.

hey, sup w/ those Mixist\n points? I also noticed, at some point since I last checked, the totals got screwed up. it looks like it's counting the Mixist\n points twice now. :o
