For those unaware of it, Jeskola buzz is a modular/tracker hybrid like sunvox, except it entirely replaces standard tracker effects with instrument automation. It is somewhat obsolete but it does deserve some recognition for being a popular tracker back in the day. I think if there were a format, it should allow all the additional machines (instruments and effects) that can be downloaded from within the program, as the stuff that comes packaged with it by default is a bit too limited. That would align with the rules for VCV.

The file format would be .bmx. buzz also saves .bmw files but i think that only saves samples and not the pattern data, or the other way around.

Additionally, while i haven't confirmed this yet, I think the program Buzztrax for linux saves files that are compatible with jeskola buzz.

yeah iirc the only reason it wasn't made a format before is that there was no mac/linux support

It's fair to not have it as a format for the lack of linux support, but mpt is windows-only as well, which is a bit inconsistent. I tried getting buzztrax running in Centos to see if it saved the same bmx file format, but i couldn't get it installed.

@goluigi good question... i cant remember the workaround i did - famitracker and vortextracker worked fine out of the box, openmpt i needed to change something i cant remember, and aria maestosa i don't know why i have sound working fine on one computer and not on another one... - perhaps somewhere from winecfg? - which distro are you using? im mostly using ubuntu (20.10)

Thanks Dami!

More signalist is great, but shouldn't Buzz be in the same format as SunVox?

i'll be honest, i assumed sunvox was signalist, lol. but mixist it is!

i guess - in both their cases really - it could go either way, with buzz being slightly further abstracted away towards signalism than sunvox is, but i'm open to peoples' thoughts on the matter 🤔
