hey. just because you cant open any of the files in a battle doesnt mean you're allowed to vote 1 on all of them
(like u did here!)
you'll get a 1-week-troll-ailment, which means you cant vote for a week. please put some thought into your votes and only vote if you really listened to the entries next time, thank you
its probably hidden a bit too well, but if you check an ohb battle page, theres this big OHB logo on the left side, and below it is the format name and a veeeery tiny link "read more" next to it. this leads you to a lyceum article which explains the format and which tools you can use for creating and playing back the files for the battle c:
you're also free to join our irc chat (link is in the top nav-bar of this page) and ask questions there in case botb is too confusing for u at first hehe

(done! thank you, @Lincent !!! - https://battleofthebits.com/academy/GroupThread/25066/ ) the forum says i don't have enough boons, so, let's post it here: as txt-based music trackers are quite scarce, i tried to start coding a kind of "mod2txt" converter (that eventually would "evolve" to xm, s3m, it, etc.) as a kind of bin2hexdump converter (and back) first (as i was doing with vgm, trying all chips or almost) - so i started with this bash script, mod2hexdump.sh ( https://pastebin.com/raw/X3qQNRX0 ) - and then this sdlbasic script, mod2hexdump.sdlbas ( https://pastebin.com/raw/5KxZ1FNA ) - the result is something like this ( https://pastebin.com/raw/7p0BfkuM ), which can be converted back to .mod and played with a bash script like this, play.sh ( https://pastebin.com/raw/dFW251x7 ) - that's it, be welcome sharing this message to the forum, and thanks! :)
first. its a cover. not submitting covers is rule 1 of botb. only original works.
second. its blank. there are no notes. no sound. empty entries aren't fun for anyone except the uploader.
deleting accounts, especially those with entries on them, is not possible. if you dont want to do any more entries on here, just log out and dont make any more entries, its very simple.
just keep in mind we dont think you should leave, your participation is welcome and supports the variety of sounds we have on botb. pure silence is just effortless shit, thats all. youre free to continue participating in battles. its up to you! :D/
hell yea, nitpicking ;D ;D
field recordings, ambience and [think about how you can use silence in a creative way] battles/entries are totally cool and i was actually thinking about how cool an ambience-only major battle would be. still different from submitting an nsf that was exported from an empty ftm... i guessss?
>"and you could write messages in a more contructive and polite way, couldn't you?"
>[...]you don't need to blackmail, at all! you can do better than this!
ah yes, because admins should be nice when talking about matters that can constitute scrub-like behavior. no, all admins instead blackmail and bully such humble little botbrs like you! you're just a saint in the middle of hell, la-dee-dah! i'm sorry, but this is honestly what i get from all of this; a piss-poor blame story to shrug off how impolite you have been. maybe if you a. look at what you did more objectively and learned from your mistakes, and b. didn't act like such an inflammatory person, maybe you wouldn't have the admins commenting on your profile about inflammatory actions such as tagging an entry "faggybeast".
...sorry, i just wanted to get that out of my chest. i'm not usually this charged nowadays, but i couldn't let this slide considering how close home this hit to me.
I will give you the tools I use to create my work.
First, I use a digital art software. Right now I use Clip Studio Paint.
Firealpaca is a free alternative which is is good for someone learning this software.
https://firealpaca.com/
Before I do my entries, I look up references on Google and think about my composition in context to the prompt given.
Thinking about your idea for your piece can take a lot more time than actually creating it. This prevents you from building upon a bad / not very fleshed out idea.
Lastly, if you have criticism for something most people gladly will listen to improve their work. Leaving a comment is probably much better than leaving rude tags everywhere.
It is a difficult task to create an interesting piece in limited timeframe. Most of my works take at least a few days. When giving criticism, it is also important to let the person defend their choices because in the end the artist's choice is the artist's choice. I actually have liked a few of your entries and can see what you are going for. This does not mean putting others down in the process, breaking rules of the site, etc. I hope this is constructive like you wanted.
Re: your last post on my profile
I agree, that would be lovely but i don't know how many botbers have enough 3D modeling/texturing experience to participate comfortably.
PS. It was really hard for me to write here, my eyes weren't too happy about the palette lol :P
Thank you for your offer. But I'm not as agile as I used to be. For me, composing music is torture for my eyes.
I think there are people more qualified than me to work with SCC sound. Besides, I'm not so good with English.
Hey d00d! Good to see you rising in the ranks! I read your posturd, I agree to what you say about BotB making us do things we don't normally do. I made all my NES-tunes because I was challenged! :D
Also, I want to be more active, I'm sure I'll come back to the real game when the time is right. :)
Cheers! Keep the stuff alive my good pal! Keep me updated!
are your sap2, tia and ted entries unrendered because you want them hardware rendered?
i could do this for ted, vinscool can do this for tia and sap.
if not, please keep in mind that uploading mp3 renders before voting starts is part of the major battle rules. just saying this because i notice a lot of your submitted entries being unrendered
i feel like i should make something clear here:
i do not have any personal problems with you as a person. i dont dislike or even hate you. i actually think youre friendly and cool and i enjoy having you around a lot in teh chatz. your hosted battles are cool too!!
wanna make that double-triple-clear because the moderating-steps i do towards you are consequences of your actions, that i try to judge and evaluate as objective as possible from my point of view. there is no personal grudge in any way !!!

Logging in gives playa points I'm pretty sure, and as I noticed yesterday (missed a day) you get more for consecutive logins. Not sure if it's affected by anything else but that's all I've been able to observe about it so far.
Also grats on 22222 chipist! (@time of writing)
So it turns out voting gives playa points, and I just happened to notice the change on the same day I voted on a couple majors. My bad for the misinformation! Every 10 votes on a major entry nets you a Playa point as well as 1 for each daily login.
after checking your vote logs, i decided to troll ail you.
all of your previous xhb votes have been changing between 6 and 7 with no exception.
which feels like a very lazy way to bypass the "make distinctions"-rule while you still upvote every single entry. again, its not about a battle or two where this happens - its about the full set of votes you decided to give.
im not interested in your explanations on this. i simply want you to respect the community and, after your ailment is lifted, to vote accordingly to the entry's quality and bitpack-compliance instead of looking for ways on how to get around the rules. use common sense.
the last thing you said in the "debut album dilemma" bulletin. that was really nice, man. it meant a lot to me, and I'm glad for your support. I'll be sure to let you know if the album ever gets released with real art, mine or someone else's =)
consider this an ultimatum: things must change, or you will face a ban.
if this seems harsh, let us explain.
you have received multiple scrub ailments for submitting low-effort or rule-breaking entries. while you've amended some, your overall approach hasn’t changed. this mod48k entry and this chipwest emo entry are yet other examples. with nearly 1300 entries, you continue to rely on the same bare-minimum generative process, showing little interest in refining or developing your work.
we support experimental, generative, and noise music, but effort and intention still matter. if you want to improve—and at this point, we are asking you to—consider these elements:
variation & development – even minimal or generative music benefits from subtle evolution.
intentional structure – a guiding form or progression adds purpose.
contrast & context – noise is most effective when balanced with silence, texture, or change.
challenge yourself – try something new beyond your usual approach.
you have also received multiple troll ailments for disingenuous voting and behavior.
you’ve downvoted high-effort entries, voted randomly, and added snarky tags. your defensive attitude isn’t helping. when asked to stop naming every entry "1," you switched to meaningless random letters and datestamps. when told not to submit 10-second entries, you barely modified them by copying and pasting. the issue isn’t just these actions—it’s the pattern of testing limits and refusing to take responsibility.
this needs to change. we’d rather see you genuinely engaging, iterating, and contributing positively to the community. but if this pattern continues, you will be banned. enough is enough.
Since you seem to like mathematical/generative music this might be right up your ally. I had a phase where I was really obsessed with church bells so it's something I've wanted to incorporate into my music at some point.
Out of all of the avante garde creators on this site, you've consistently been one of the more intriguing and ambiguous. While you often come off to many as less serious about your entries, I have a feeling you enjoy what you do for what it is, more than everyone gives you credit for. Avantegarde, noise, abstract, it's all relevant, and worth looking at with a more open perspective than a lot of folks have.
