let's say I want to find this entry:
http://battleofthebits.com/arena/Entry/haunted.xm/18976/

so I do this
(same as punching the term into the search box)

and all that shows up are pages referencing the track I want, but not the actual track page (or the associated battle page).

I'm guessing this has something to do with indexing and the way keywords are specified in the source, but my html-fu is not really that good, so I can't be more specific :P

i think the page just isn't indexed at all by google. if you search for something like "variety.png" the actual entry page is the first result.

weird. I can't seem to discern any rhyme or reason for why certain pages are not indexed, but yeah, I think that's the issue...

Google uses programs called crawlers to gain information about websites across the internet. Despite having very sophisticated algorithms behind them. What it ends up finding out and when is extremely varied. It could take minuets to show up in a google search or even months. There's no rhythm or rhyme.

I found that it helps to specify where on the site you want to look for a keyword. At the end of the search string it usually says site:battleofthebits.com, but one can specify a "sub-directory" like site:battleofthebits.com/arena/Entry .... which unfortunately does not help with your example D:
So yeah, indexing...
