there are no "songs from the game" since all music is generated on execution, so your remix wld be nothing else than a remix of one specific generation of the music

Despite the music being generated on execution, there are limitations that make the music harmonically loop. The things that are randomized are more in the realm of omitting a hat or snare here and maybe a de-accent note there... I made a decision at some point that not doing this would keep players from being familiar with the music as they played it more and more. Some speed running is reliant on musical cues regardless if its on purpose or subconscious.

... tho some of the sound fx and transition cues/stabs have their root note based on whatever the in-game music is currently playing.
... which you can experience using the sound test feature in the rom

nsf_classic format is meant for people to make their own soundtrack for GunTneR -- can be one song or multiple with sfx

in the bitpack there is a rom with no in-game music which can be used for sampling gameplay or for testing out your own music against the gameplay

Wanna make an entry for this but I have no idea what I'm meant to do
for the all gear, you need to make a remix of its music...
its procedurally generated music
that's impossible to hear (for me at least) because of the shooting sfx
ik the menu has a thing to listen to stuff but...
I don't have relative pitch lmao

and for the nsf one, we need to make an original for it
really, the only thing you can do is make some generic shmul music and call it an inspired original

Maybe I'm not reading this correctly, but that's my current understanding of this, so...

Interesting fact: all notes from "1 GunTneR sick dingle.mid" make "step-half step" interval template. Am I wrong?

@SRB2er there's a bunch of provided midis of in-game music that puke generated to match the stuff in the game as accurately as possible, so you can work with those *or* the provided wav file. for the nsfc you can also play the game to get a feel for the mood and tone before you write your piece.

@Demphys - yeah iirc most of the music uses that 8-tone scale. I don't really remember how I picked the notes. I did this because it made octaves happen at the nice and round binary number of 8.

oh I am glad you extended it, because now I get to participate!

1.) This game is a trip, the RTL-flying and enemies looping horizontally is delightful

2.) I don't know if this counts as cheating but everything is easier with a turbo button

3.) really my only critique is that I can't get *even more* skulls orbiting my ship, AND that I can't get extra little guys to fly at my side and also shoot, getting extra guys is my favorite part of shmups

The victory theme is the only musical bit I can make heads or tales of so that's what I'm remixing 😅

while you can't get multiple skulls to orbit -- each skull shield you pick up makes the skull orbit that much faster and it turns into a very protective ring when it gets really fast
