It should be noted that for the ZXBeeper format, do not submit a .bbsong and instead submit a .tap (which should be listed alongside the accepted formats), .sna or .z80 file for universal playability, and authenticity (as per the rule for zxbeep ohbs).

basically dont send covers/remixes (originals only), entries submitted to other compos are not allowed, and you must submit the allowed format BEFORE upping the mp3; you'll have an option to do that afterwards
also .mod and .mid formats have a 64kb filesize limit

thanks a lot, as I might do my 2nd stereo SID with post added reverb, I guess it will go into the Wild and not the c64 sid or how does this work? my SID will be playable with SIDplayer 2.6 which supports multiple SIDs but the sound will need added reverb to sound as intended/composd.

also in the c64 category only one .sid file is allowed
also i dont think stereo sid is allowed since its probably a hack or something, sorta like the stereo sap, i dont really know (if im wrong someone correct me, please)

My Atari 2600 sound driver has halted development as a result of getting distracted by another unfinished video game soundtrack from a year and a half ago. It's currently in the final verification process now.

If that's not bad enough, my college work is also coming back. That means my sound driver might be stuck in that state for a while, and may not even find its use for another year.

hey i gotta say, i'm stoked at how high the bar's been raised this year among gameboy entries

alright well i'm finally done voting. we didn't have as many entries as last year, but i think the overall quality has definitely gone up(not that it was ever low quality in previous years!)

like, i think i'm hearing more people doing adventurous things without tripping over themselves musically...or something! i think it shows how people are growing and stuff, and perhaps that the community is attracting more and more peeps who are already well along their way.

also i wanna give a shoutout to a few peeps whose entries really stood out to me this year(in no particular order):


stewboy - all of your tunes have tons of personality and content. i always come away feeling like i've had a bite of steak and potatoes.

gotoandplay - i love your creative approach with all the chips you managed to touch this year, and how you kept it deliciously interesting every step of the way. your music totally vibes with me.

mega9man - every last song was totally solid and interesting in its own way. you got through a lot of formats and they all got high scores from me.

kfaraday - similar sentiments as mega9man's. also, i felt your entries were more concise and focused...like, at a pace which allowed me to better digest all that beautiful stuff rolling around up there.

I plan on hosting a stream when the voting period closes!

Now I'm jumping the gun and attempting to redeem myself on the NES side with a Summer Chip V NES entry.

Just wanted to say a few words about my feelings on this battle.
What I really liked this year:
- High overall quality of works, and fewer joke tracks than last year.
- Growing popularity of coding experiments. I really hope this will continue in the future. I'd still even advocate having a "code" category in the future, to encourage people to write new music drivers. Especially tools for the underdog chips like VIC20 and TIA are far from having reached their full potential.
What I wasn't so happy about:
- No channelf.
- Missing 3rd place in VIC by 0.1 points. And that was even my own fault, since I gave nearly all 7s to the first 3 places ;)
- On a more serious note - the massive amount of wildchip entries. Seems I'm not the only one bothered by this, because the average number of votes on wildchip entries is noticably lower than in other categories. I think one possible solution would be to tighten the rules on what qualifies as wildchip. Imo wildchip should be actual chip, ie. entries made with actual 8 and 16 bit hw/tools that are not represented in the other categories. Whereas "fake"chip entries should go into a new category, "DAW" or something. That category should be excluded from Winter Chip - much better to have it at Spring Trax, for instance. Why? Simply because with ~300 tracks, it's nearly impossible to fairly vote on everything, unless you got truckloads of free time. If that number were to go down a bit, I think more people would be inclined to vote. (Or, to speak more realisticly, at least then we don't get 500 tracks next year.)

+1 wildchip should be reserved for chip, mp3 as a format upload disallowed and thusly reward chipist points.
But do add allgear categories and thusly reward mixist.

Or you could forbid allgear entries from entering wildchip, and keep winter all chip and save allgear entries for summer

There are some entries which use multiple chips or instrumentation configurations, and therefore cannot export to a single chip format (e.g. opus 5). However, these entries are still very much chip entries. While I agree that authenticity should be rewarded somehow, disallowing mp3 uploads is the wrong way to go about it.

actually I think it's upon to voter's criteria, they can give points for authenticity or deduce for fakebit if they want to do so
actually that sorta happens already I think, I've never seen a fakebit entry score high unless they're actually very good

+1 for more coders in the future, i think there's a lot of untapped potential in that direction.

regarding wildchip, i've always understood wildchip as more of a tribute to the chiptune spirit than an actual chiptune category. kind of like a lounge room. of course, it's ultimately what the voters make it, but that's my take on it.

Just to clarify, I'm totally fine with "fake"chip entries (except that the term itself is stupid, but I don't know how to put it better). I mean where do you draw the line between "authentic" and "not authentic" anyway. My concern is that the number of entries in WC has grown beyond a manageable amout for voters. That's a problem that needs to be tackled, and I don't think upping the rewards for "completionists" as proposed by puke will be enough. Appearantly people are less inclined to vote on the wildchip category, which is why modifying it could become part of the solution. On the other hand I totally see why people want to keep it as it is, it's a fun category after all. It can stay as it is for all I care, but in it's current form it shouldn't necessarily be a part of WC in the future.

One of these days, I'm using the wildchip category to pull off a SNES song that has some sort of streaming in it (and therefore is an actual SNES ROM rather than a .spc file). I have to create the sound driver first, though.

I stopped voting because these days I have college work to attend to. I also realized that the scale was getting massive and I was finding myself getting less and less interested each compo with a good majority of the songs. This actually meant that I rarely give 7s because there's simply too many of them that might get up there in the ranks. There's only so many songs I can listen to before everything becomes a blur with me. Plus, I am sometimes more attracted towards the bottom of the ranks for this exact reason: they can be bizarre at times, and for me, sometimes they turn out to be more memorable. This is the exact reason why I failed to vote on Famicompo Pico: almost nothing stood out in a particularly memorable way for me to invent a top 10. All of them sounded average to my ears.

I've cut down on my entries because of the time invested in coding sound drivers. I only made one Summer Chip IV entry because I was attempting to code a SPC700 sound driver. I also only made one Winter Chip X entry because I was trying to code an Atari 2600 sound driver.

also reducing the amount of wildchip entries won't change much (or even theoretically not having the category in winter chip) because there would have still been 225 entries which is still a LOT!~

if u really can't vote on all 238502157298345234025 entries of a gigantic compo liek this at least try to vote on an entire category (that's way better than voting on like 1 entry and especially better than voting on only one entry and giving it all 7s)

i think if we reduced the amount of goluigi entries the bandcamp playlist wouldnt be so imbalanced
