My reaction when I saw this comment wall:

"First Detroit for me ever! Whoah look, so many famous faces around here! Oooh, Doxic got himself a screencap of Strobe's avatar - that's pretty awesome and cree... Wait a minute, it's a Detroit, aren't we supposed to submit samples or anything? :c"

Well i was surprised by the title of the compo, but it seemed to have nothing to do with uncle Strobe :o

i'm sorry, but no chipchamp rnb sample?! this is absurd, my world has gone topsy turvy

If the sample pack is what I think it is (as in... not separated at all... or even just individual songs), it'll be a nightmare for me to make individual samples out of that sample pack... plus, I feel like it's not worth the hundred megabytes for a one-time use, as I dare not use that stuff in other material that I might make in the future. I also don't feel like I can dedicate time to making one, especially when it runs straight through December 25th.

Hi! this battle is from my noggin. Just wanted to mix things up a little. I admit, I didn't realize the Golden Record was an extend LP. Carl Sagan probably tried for a 6-disc collection before NASA (copyright free) shot him down. I added the Doc Waffles samples because he is a Detroit MC of the highest quality (and like most of us, an incredibly smart weirdo) and I wanted a local angle. Here's a vid link

I opened one of the mp3 files provided in the samplepack in OpenMPT and it gave me a sort of white noise (yes, I know OpenMPT only reads .wav, getting this white noise was my intention). Can I use this white noise as a sample?

The idea of having music on vinyl has regenerated my want to do well in this contest. It's just tough! I think I'll make something eerie as the samples tell me to do.

raphael, yes. Sample manipulation is highly encouraged. You can use whatever comes out of your modification to the samples provided.

If you show your project file afterward for people to know exactly what you did, even better. But that's just a bonus.

BCB, that's probably gonna happen if your track decent enough for being published in an album/as a single. I mean, look at the Bandcamp releases - not even all the major compo entries are there! :o
