Hey all,
Got to talking with a few close friends re: Doom and BotB, and one good point that was brought up was the fact that there are lots of Doom mappers out there (including a few potential BotBrs) who aren't well versed in making maps for the vanilla engine. Since the BotB Doom format specifically incorporates vanilla-compatibility into the ruleset, I'm thinking a "doomplus" format would be a super-cool addition to expand the doomy community segment a bit.
I propose that the format stick to the well-known Boom featureset ( see http://doomwiki.org/wiki/Boom , i.e. "Boom-compatible" for those familiar with Doom terminology), which for the layperson is a widely-port-supported feature standard that lifts mapping limits and adds a bunch of new mapping features like generalized line specials. I suppose we could call the format "boom", but that's maybe a bit confusing to non-doomers and I do like the name "doomplus" for the format since it sounds nice n' BotB-ish.
In terms of source ports, PrBoom+ ( http://doomwiki.org/wiki/PrBoom%2B ) is pretty much the gold standard of a Boom-compatible port these days, so I'd say to mention it as the official "use this to test your maps" port similar to how Chocolate Doom is for the existing "doom" format.
I suppose if anything else needs clarification/explanation, feel free to ask, since I've been around the Doom land long enough to somewhat know how this stuff is supposed to work. I'm quite the old fogie, really. :P
