So, yesterday, while out gallivanting in meat space, my phone started blowing up with twitter texts about a certain BotBr named lyceumexploiter leveling up in record increments and time. Meanwhile this OHB occurred rendering a brilliant mootbooxle track where he narrated my night as it was probably happening in parallel real time. Except I didn't bail right then to find out what was going on, I waited until the following hungover morning.

Ok. So someone found an exploit? Do we know what to do when we find something like that? Let's go over it! You tell me or an admin and then ignore it. It's really that easy.

Now. In reaction to this, admins and myself have decided to add a couple more BotBr ailments

so we can ground n00bs. I can't believe after all these years BotB has to have measurements of punishment. :(

HertzDevil, Kajingsol and goluigi! I'm sorry but yer all grounded for a hot minute. You three are all scrubs right now. You've also lost your pedagogist points (except for careful, nimble goluigi).

Soiled Bargains! I've butt heads with you and others about this before. There is no "upload whatever you want" format on BotB. The format 'allgear' is an audio format. It is not a graphic format. It is not a zip file format. It messes with the whole point system. If there was an "upload anything" format it would have to award OHB points solely. You have been marked as a parasite. You are not a host. For now.

You know what, I completely agree with all this. I can accept being a scrub for a while. While I didn't actually start the whole thing, I did let it fester and if I only listened to Jangler and did more research on mySQL and apache or whatever, this probably wouldn't have happened lol. Thanks to Soiled Bargains for trying to show me what's behind all this even though I epically failed at using XAMPP.

About Soiled Bargains hosting the upload anything compo, I know you've done a lot of work lately on this site puke and I'm not asking you to do anything new now or anything, but a lot of these "upload anything" compos seem to go really well! Maybe one day, we could have a new category called "free for all" or something and it would be for that purpose! Because most of the people I've talked to really enjoy free for all compos such as the last one. Plus, that one turned out really well.

I think the I learned is to not completely exploit bugs like these because now I know what goes behind fixing things like these. I wouldn't say I did this out of complete ignorance since Jangler did tell me, but when he said database editing, I thought that was just changing values but of course I should have inquired more and done more research.

This week has been really hectic, all the flamewars, IRC fights, and now this exploit thing. I think when the Winter Chip VIII voting phase comes around, we'll all just listen to good music and vote. I mean that's why most of us came here, to make good music and art and then listen to everyone else's music!

soiledbargains has an ohb bot which can run ohbs in an irc channel and since everyone interested in this ohbs is usually in irc, why not keep it in there? these things dont really need to be recorded for posterity for All Time.

given botb's roots/origins/NAME it seems odd for it to become a place where people are sharing flash games and stuff like that. well that's just my opinion ~

I know this was late, but the drama that has ensued since this threw me off into a zone where I had to collect my thoughts.

My "use" of "artistic license" may have implied that I thought allgear should not be an audio format. If so, not at all. allgear is already has already been established as an audio format, and save for my urges up to my eventual warning, I intend to keep it so. I apologize for pretending on occasion that allgear is for everything or ZIPs of multiple files.

Second, we've had fun times with submit everything compos. Back in 2010 we had one that was pretty good (regardless of the results). I realize more clearly how we've messed with the points system, especially with ASCII which has a case so bad its name could be changed if it weren't such a bad idea as of late. I agree with ant1 that BotB was not created for PowerPoint slideshows. But we've had good times with these, and they haven't been frequent enough to take away from BotB's original purpose. Perhaps we could experiment with once or twice with such an OHCist-point-only format? Maybe BotBrs will relax a bit more with such an experiment and submit more creative entries without having to worry about getting in trouble.

In regards to experimenting with formats, things should change so that we speak before we OHB, especially seeing as no one gave a damn to continue a thread that could have mitigated if not eliminated further ASCII abuse. Yet, BotB has seen a lot of new formats since I've been here, and some of them have spawned from these battles. WAD, HTML and ASCII to name a few. Though all of these first OHBs have been lucky enough to immediately catch on to be relabelled shortly after with their new name. Maybe, in fact, the idea WAD battles was conceived with that "submit everything" OHB nearly three years ago... I can't recall at the moment.

Seeing as I've already screwed up tonight, I'm going to stop here and post as-is.

'upload anything' goes beyond messing with the point system. The ability to upload renders is based around format types too. Essentially, if 'upload anything' was a format no renders could be allowed. I've been thinking about other format types like video/programming where a render could be a screenshot. Audio gets mp3 renders if it isn't one already (duh). Images could maybe get a thumbnail as a render. But 'upload anything', because of it's very nature, will not be interpreting what type of renders are ok any time soon.
