first of all... level 21 with 87 entries isnt bad.
you get more points from scoring high than from making entries alone. especially major trophies give big points.
then, entries accumulate points when already submitted when people play them or donload them. major submissions get donloaded and played more than xhb submissions. so the more entries you do, over time they start being "passive income" so to say.
same goes for rendering other entries (see how many renderist points funute and me have after rendering almost all new ohb entries for 2-3 years)

then, combine voting with tagging. apply a tag on every entry you vote on. twice the points. it makes a difference after some time.

but most importantly: dont bother. the less you focus on level, the quicker it feels like to level up.

as a more personal insight: i made my first big level jumps from tagging a lot of old entries. bonus while doing that: you discover some great music!!

One thing I've noticed is that it helps to submit to less popular formats in bigger battles; since battles give out more points the more entries there are, focusing some attention on formats with relatively few entries can be suprisingly beneficial in terms of points.

In my personal experience, going for completionist runs on The Planets and Advent 2025 gave me a whole bunch of points; I think this is because of the shorter entry periods for each round, which make the competition somewhat less fierce compared to seasonal majors (where people might spend weeks or months on their entries), while still having a lot of entries overall. Especially Advent was pretty crazy for points; I almost skipped level 24 entirely...

That being said, I wouldn't necessarily recommend going for completionism unless you have too much time & sanity to lose. However, trying out more niche formats might be worth a try. It's part of the fun of this website!

> "then, entries accumulate points when already submitted when people play them or donload them. major submissions get donloaded and played more than xhb submissions. so the more entries you do, over time they start being "passive income" so to say."

I guess this varies from person to person, because the amount of points I get from existing entries (major or minor) is honestly very small...

i have like 3x your entries yet im only 2 levels ahead, man im washed
granted its in the 20s but still
@Kaytse closest ill ever be able to do in future is winning a format with like 4 entries
(mine included)

self yap aside,
surely completionist vorting, and submitting decent/high quality entries to majors could help though (already stated tho rip)

or pull a luna and make an entire lyceum article
(dunno the word to point conversion rate but ill assume its decent enough)

major medals are definitely the biggest point windfall, especially if you made a lot of entries and especially if the major was large. point returns scale with the size of the battle in both majors and xhbs. branching out: good for your soul *and* your point total!

super roughly estimating, I think there's been about 20 majors where I've entered several things and enough of those things did well for me to get a lot of points (a bunch of seasonals, advent calendars and grands prix). a really good point haul in my experience is like 10k, and those combined account for close to half of my point total.

re 234141:
hard for me to host allgear when i personally dont enjoy the format enough to get a badge for it ):

re 234142:
renderist is so annoying, i tried rendering old ascii entries and it was so life draining... actually maybe it was because i was at school while doing that LMAO, i might try rendering again soon actually

while i do try to tag my own entries, i struggle with tagging entries a lot of entries since i dont know how to describe a song... you could say im not knowledgeable on what TRENDING tags to use. about voting, ive been trying to completionist voting and ive been having the problem of i cant care about all the entries im voting on, so in majors i struggle to rate a lot of things above a 4 or 5... but thats not really a point thing so i should probably move on to a different pont

im struggling to not focus on my levels because i cant host anything until i get a badge or lvl 27. i even made an alt to get 7 badges so i can do more battles on my main but i just cannot get a badge on there either (pls someone host pixel every day) ):

re 234144:
oh yeah i was banned i frorgot

re 234146:
maybe levelling worked different a while ago or something, 100% has changed at least somewhat overtime. i think puke is still making some changes to points?? i dunno

also i had to type up what fwiw means, can you tell i dont talk to people ararararar

re 234156:
i mentioned this in the original post but its probably good to specify some things to let people know what type of botbr i am

completionist is infeasible for me due to the fact that if i make too many things ill be completely burnt out and im very mean (like right now probably) and you probably dont want to be around me when im burnt out. its why i dont have more entries in the time that ive been on botb, its a miracle ive even made more than 40 entries.

i dont even know how people can manage completionist, maybe its because im a shitty perfectionist but i just cannot make things sometimes...

re 234158:
uhhh im a nexxt guy.... is that a niche format? i dont really use the opputunity to do wack formats so i only enter a new format once a couple months... i do often wish for wacky-er formats for battles so i could try them and maybe win (i think i asked for moai and clipnote in spring tracks before i ate shit and died), but my requests go ignored sometimes (RIP TELETEXT IN WINTERCHIP XXI 2026-2026)

read above for completionism, but i do think its a good way to try new formats i guess (unless you have already done every single format in the battle)

advent is probably where ive gotten like 30% of my points or something its insane... but also consider the fact that advent is where i have probably made the most entries for a major. maybe this is my sign to just go full completionist and ignore my sanity but thats for a later time...

also yeah you get like 5 points per month from people just viewing your entries unless you already have like 10000000 entries on the site (then you will get 6 points per month)

re 234163:
i kinda did make my own lyceum article because i completely revamped the smw article with new stuffz, was kinda boring and i dont know if ill ever do something like that again but it did actually give me a decent number of points

thought about mayyybbbeeeeee making a level design page, but im not sure if smw has gotten out of being an uber niche format

re 234165:
ok so i never stated the problem with points from majors: you have to place high, which i struggle to do... also i often cant enter big XHBs or i just cant really do xhbs in general because i live in the number one place to get skin cancer (which is often botb's downtime)

how da fuck do you get 10k points in a major, i struggle to get 1k unless the site fucks up and gives me like 1.5k samplist points for submitting 2nd in a major (incredible)

-----------------

wow what the fuck this is probably my longest comment on the site lmao, im too tired to proofread so if im completely unintelligible im sorry. thanks for all of the suggestions ill try to take them into my brain

edit: there i changed some things to be a bit more positive, i didnt sleep enough so as stated above i didnt read over my comment. sorry if im freaking out i just dont want people to hate me again (or continue to hate me)

this really seems like youre purposely trying to defend yourself into a corner ://

yes, youre allowed to have your reasons, AND all your fellow botbrs went out of their way to give you advice and what had worked best for them. not to go all teacher on you, but was it necessary, and productive to you and others, to bring down those who enjoy all the formats / classists, and to say you don't care of the entries you vote for ? it wouldn't feel great for you as a perfectionist to be dismissed how you are doing to others, especially so publicly - that statement alone definitely has me think of you differently.

you are free to want to run all of your accounts as gimmicks if you so desire, i can't change how you view this site - but you might bring yourself a lot more joy playing the game of botb so to speak as intended :v like any game, we can have an initial run of the game to do our main story (which, in your case, is more invested in leveling up), and only then after alt accounts to play through alternatively, if that makes sense.

we are all n00bz here and i truly do belive the best attitude in this site is growth not in points but in technicality - which you obviously have per your nexxt entry this winter, and it could be a delightful platform to grow other formats you feel weaker in (or even finding a way to enjoy allgear !

all i know is that your comments have really rubbed me the wrong way and that itd be in your best interest for yourself to be introspective on why these comments regarding such had you feel like this...you deserve for yourself to be in a part of a community that matches your interests, but it does mean being humble or grateful when the community reaches back out for you instead of refuting !! :(

it's the early am here and i need to rest. get back soon :v

after reading ur big comment all I can think is, maybe botb and the mechanic of leveling up isn't for you.
don't get me wrong. I'm not saying you shld go somewhere else or that you cldnt find enjoyment in other things the site has to offer. but to me it feels like it's not healthy for you to focus on the points and the levels if I take all your arguments together.

you won't be able to suddenly gain lots of points if all the options are bad for your mental health or boring or whatever. maybe easier to accept that instead of trying harder and harder

yeah i agree with what kleeder said earlier. i feel like if you're beating yourself up about this you're kind of missing the point of botb, which is to have fun. the competition should not be the focus, the focus should be making the best music or art or whatever that you can. winning things is a nice bonus!
