it's called "KiraStudio", strongly resembles FamiStudio in layout, and seems to be focused on a "fakebit-like" or, maybe more accurately, "wildchip" approach with retro sounds that can be given effect stacks and automation. maybe something like the scope of modern beepbox forks, just in a different package? I dunno, it looks pretty appealing though at any rate.

here's their brief announcement video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_vwQxlyWYM

and website: https://kirastudio.org/

if and when this program gets to a comfortable stable point in the future, and doesn't rely on files external to its project files, it has the potential to be a cool format here on the B O T B

robotmeadows: it's just kinda underwhelming that this isn't also foss like famistudio. there should be more options for making music without forking over bucks or having to resort to installing windows

Well from what I understand Mathieu had to cover the expenses for MacOS/iOS development also the Apple developer license hence why it is paid in that platform which i get. However i don't really understand why it can't have a native linux version.

Stop complaining about closed source. If they want to protect their source code, they have every right to.

At least the Windows version is free. Your beef should be with apple for charging developers to code for their platform. Not sure why they don't have a linux build though.

@flarf i'm guessing its because they can't build whatever "native linux" is
(something something wine)

i am just as confused as you though

I think the model of charging for official builds and providing the source code free of charge works better than people like to admit. I previously hated it as I thought to myself that these projects don't embrace FOSS fully but they kind of do. I wish kirastudio could adopt such a model.

It goes both ways. If we want to make our preference for free software known, we have every right to.

learn reverse engineering and suddenly lack of source code becomes a non-issue

also: running a windows binary through wine is practically guaranteed to work and *keep working in the future*, unlike a native linux one.
same goes for apple honestly, considering rosetta 2 is already getting deprecated.

Tried it and couldn't really get myself to like it, so idk...

I personally don't think we need a format for KiraStudio either, but who knows what'll happen, after all I'm just a regular ol' botbr

Kirastudio fits well in something like allgear or fakebit, although botb has jummbox which would also perfectly fit in either of those formats but it also has its own format.

IMO, it needs time, it's a really fresh out of the oven software. FamiStudio had years of updates before it got added here, so i believe the same can apply to this one.
